Disadvantages: Not so funny at the time

Who uf us ahsnt't had a disaster in the kitchen at some point, but What I want to know is why does it always happen when you expect guests? You can make the same recipe a million times, and it always comes perfect, but the night you decide to cook it for your guests, will be the night disaster struck.

A few months ago my husband invited a friend for dinner, and as they entered the house, told me how my husband was singing my praises as a cook. I felt confident, as I was making my favourite chicken stew, and was sure they would love it...except everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. The rice was overcooked and lumpy, and the chicken not only burned, but as I tasted it, I realised I forgot a few essential ingredients, and it just tasted awful! To this day I have no idea why it all went so wrong, but needles to say they havent accepted a dinner invitation again.

A few years ago I went through a phase where I cooked all things Asian, and aquired a huge cookbook with recipes. I wanted to cook a special dinner for my parents, so decided on a particular lamb curry. Halfway through I realised I needed fresh or dried mint, neither that I had available. I "cleverly" thought I woudl improvise, and put a huge spoon of mint sauce I had in the regrigerator instead. Disaster! As I lifted the lid of the pot to serve the curry, I noticed to my shock it turned bright GREEN!
Belive me, it really did not look appetising at all, but luckily my dear parents were sport enough to have a good laugh, and still eat it with delight....at least the taste was brilliant!

I still laugh thinking of the bright green curry on the plate...teehee!

Summary: When disaster struck, hold you head up high, and have a laugh.
