Donington Park is heaven in a large green field - or at least that has always been my view of the magnificent former grand prix circuit situated on the edge fo Derbyshire and Leicestershire. I used to live roughly four miles from the circuit when I worked in the Midlands many years ago. It was then that I first discovered what a magical atmosphere Donington has - not just for motor races but as an outdoor venue for rock concerts and the like. The ability of a place like Donington to be versatile is what guarantees its future. Donington Park has always been a circuit of choice when faced with a choice of venues to go and see a particular racing series, and will continue to be the choice for sometime to come. In recent years, I havent been able to visit the track as often as I would have liked as we now live in Dorset, but Donington used to be my local circuit, and in the past I have been there to watch TOCA, Superbike, and rounds of both the British and global GT championships. I had the opportunity of going to the British Motor Cycle Grand Prix at Donington on July 9. I have only ever been to 2 other UK Motor Racing Circuits, Silverstone and Brands Hatch, and Donington compares favourably. Access from the Motorway network is excellent, signeage is easy to follow and Policing/Stewarding immediately around the circiut is efficient. Parking is easy and plentiful. Circuit access is good but once inside there in little if any signeage as to facilities available, locations of Grandstands, seating or viewing points, basically its a free for all, except for VIPs and additional cost Grandstands. Food opportunities are basic but fair ...
