Advantages: Differentiates between very good reviews and exceptional reviews
Disadvantages: Slightly disheartening when you are nominated and you don't get one
The moment has finally come; I am now the proud owner of not one crown but two shiny crowns. I am still really enthusiastic and excited after receiving these quite recently which is why I thought it was best to write this review now. My writing experience from Dooyoo has taught me that my best reviews are written when I feel this way. As opposed to feeling like I "have" to write because I haven't written a review in a while.
When I joined Dooyoo crowns were not really a consideration, because of my ignorance to read the Dooyoo help notes. In my usual enthusiasm (some may call ignorance) I jumped into writing reviews without even reading any guidance notes in the same way that I never read instructions when I buy a new product. I did notice when I was reading the reviews of others a little crown symbol next to the title. I would read these and always rate as a Very Useful and notice that these were very good reviews. I did start to wonder what the crown symbol actually meant.
After about two weeks of churning I then stumbled upon the help guide and came across the section "What is a Crowned Review". The official Dooyoo take on a crowned review is "an exceptionally well written review". Once nominated for a crown in order for Dooyoo to actually reward a review a crown the following criteria should apply:
*It should be helpful
*It should provide all the information required for a consumer to make and informed purchasing decision
*Insightful
*Full of character
*Entertaining and enjoyable to read
I haven't read a review yet that has been crowned and I have thought that it doesn't deserve its crown. Although on the flipside however there are some reviews in which I feel have followed all of these guidelines and have shown particular enthusiasm towards an experience or a product and yet have not received a crown. There are some fantastic reviews that I have read and nominated but they have not received a crown and I feel quite disappointed for my fellow writers as well as also feeling this way about some of my own reviews! As I have become more familiar with the site I have accepted that not every great review is going to get a crown otherwise it would be difficult to differentiate between the quality of reviews; the very good and the exceptional. My view is that the standard to be awarded a crown is particularly high, therefore the advice I would give to those new to Dooyoo is don't be disheartened if your review does not receive a crown. There are a lot of fantastic reviews on Dooyoo that do not have a shiny crown!
I feel that crowns are an excellent way to reward people for an exceptional review. The 1500 additional Dooyoo points are an excellent tangible reward but I feel that the whole non financial reward and the recognition for gaining a crown is far more exciting than the points. I jumped around my living room and let out a loud scream when I got my first (and second ) crown. It was the recognition that I had produced a piece of work others thought was excellent that made me feel extremely proud rather than the actual reward.
My first crown was for a review on presentations which was in speakers corner. As a result I did not gain any points once I submitted the review and also when I received this crown but I was just as excited, if not more excited when I was awarded this crown than for my second which I received points for. I give a lot of presentations which is why I decided to write a review on this topic and so I feel it was a massive compliment that others thought my advice was particularly useful.
My second crown was for a review on UGG boots; one of my favourite products. I feel that my general enthusiasm showed in the review and my obsession with what are essentially quite ugly pieces of footwear. The 1500 bonus Dooyoo miles were appreciated but almost seemed irrelevant as I was so excited to get another crown and the recognition.
I have set myself quite a tough goal for my future Dooyoo reviews; I would like to achieve another 10 crowns this year. We are nearly in May now this does appear quite tough as this would average on achieving one crown per month; two on some months. This will require me to take on board the feedback that I am given by those reading my reviews, so please if you can think of a way that I can improve my work then please let me know...
Summary: A great reward and recognition scheme
