Advantages: your choice
Disadvantages: your choice again
Rating on dooyoo is a simple process yet some people still feel the need to give low ratings to what I consider to be very useful reviews, (and I don't just include my reviews in this rant...sorry, review).
To rate all you have to do is read a review with an open mind, reading the review before reading other peoples ratings or comments, as this will most likely influence your final rating decision.
When you have studied the review then you have to ask yourself whether what you have just read was of any use to you regarding purchasing/watching/hiring/visiting (etc. etc) the review...
Once you have made your decision then simply click on the appropriate rectangle... simple...
If you then decide that you want to add your own opinion to the review then gladly leave a comment as these can be useful (sometimes)...
* How do I do it...?
Well, the first people I tend to read are those that have the courtesy of reading my reviews, as I tend to have a little circle of real trusted 'raters'... then I tend to go to my e-mails and click on to check out the e-mail from dooyooteam telling me of the people in my 'e-mail alerts' who have written a new review, ( although I have been deleting some of these recently as I have found that they are not even looking at my reviews for some reason..?)
Then, after going through some of these I then tend to have a look at some of the latest review as I find some of them can be quite interesting indeed, even if I have not much interest in the subject they are reviewing...(you never know what facts may come in handy in your future).
Usually, after that, my eyes are red raw and my brain feels like a fried prune in a heat wave so I have to go off line for a bit to recharge my batteries...
* What about commenting..?
I do not tend to comment on every review I read as I feel some reviews don't warrant a comment, even if I have given them a 'very useful', the review has said it all.
I tend to write a comment if a review I have read strikes a chord with-in my little grey cells as I feel that I have to say something, even if it is something as simple as ' great review'... although sometimes I do tend to write a little more.
Although I do feel that if someone does give a low rating on some ones review then they should at least have the courtesy to give a reason... criticisms could lead to better reviews at the end of the day... we are all still learning.
* What about revenge rating?
I for one do not agree with revenge rating as there is no point in it.
I will admit that I am very tempted, especially when I believe that the review I have spent hours, if not days, on has just been rated as not useful...???? I will have a look at that raters review and think 'shall I click on not useful?'... but then I think...No, I'll read their review and give my honest opinion.
In fact, sometimes, if someone has nominated one of my reviews and I go and read one of there, believing it is worthy of a nomination I am sometimes in two minds as to nominate in case people believe me to be returning a 'favour'...(which I am not)... once or twice I have read the review and not rated it there and then, coming back to it another time and rating/nominating it then.
'Revenge' rating works both ways... bad rating make for bad rating and nominations could be returned with nominations?
* In conclusion
If you're honest and impartial when reading a review then you will give it your honest rating.
Don't be swayed by other rating and comments and don't seek revenge for a low rating which has headed your way... it is not worth it and it is degrading to all members, and may even bring the site to its knees...
Be fair when rating and feel free to leave a comment whenever possible, (criticism can be useful).
Summary: Read with an open mind... then rate it

- 01/12/08 good point plippop, i could have worded it a little differently, and thanks for your 'useful' in a sea of 'very usefuls', much appreciated, but as you you say, each to their own opinion...regards,blissma n |

- 01/12/08 Agreed, I always try and rate fairly, but in fairness, I also tend to rate a lot of people who I know have good writing styles etc, so give out a quite a few VU's. Altough I will give out less and do frequently if I feel it isn't useful.
I did get confused that I got a Not Useful on a discussion/general review answering questions...how can that be not useful, maybe not relevant to anything, but I resent the Not useful (bitter much? lol)

- 01/12/08 I didn't really get the first point here.
You started by saying: "yet some people still feel the need to give low ratings to what I consider to be very useful reviews"
Does that mean that they're wrong? Your advice that people should be fair and honest is totally good, but everyone must also accept that every individual may have different things they're looking/not looking for in a review. One man's poison, and all that. |
