I really enjoy reading and rating reviews on Dooyoo . Although the title of this review is how to rate and comment it is of course only my opinion of how I rate and comment a review. For me, a good review is one that contains not only all the product information I would need to make a buying decision but also the reviewers personal opinion.

Unlike some members I like to know what the ingredients of a food product are and therefore like to see a list of ingredients. When I am shopping I rarely have time to read the ingredients list of a new product I have read about! Having the ingredients listed helps me ensure there is nothing nasty lurking in the product! I avoid anything containing the artificial sweetener aspartame for example. For me, a good food product review will also have the reviewer's thoughts on taste, price and where to buy, all-important factors. I also like reviews that contain a bit of humour. I do not, on the other hand want to read paragraphs full of information about the manufacturers history, I can get this myself if I'm interested from their web site!

My favourite reviews are probably travel reviews. I love to read about places I have visited as it often brings back happy memories. I also love reading about new places I am yet to visit. For me, a good travel review will contain not only the writer's personal opinion but also lots of information about prices, climate and eating in the area for example. I have printed off reviews written on Dooyoo before travelling and found them truly very helpful!

I think that a good book review needs to contain a synopsis of the plot without giving too much away. I like to read the reviewers thoughts on the book and learn a little about the books characters. In short, I need just enough information to determine whether the book being reviewed will be one I would enjoy. The exception to not giving the plot away, are children's book reviews. As a parent I like to know the entire story and how it ends. I have a very sensitive 5- year old and would prefer not to read a story about an animal dying at bedtime! So for me, a review that tells me exactly what the book is about and how it ends is a very helpful review. I also like to know what the illustrations are like and a little about the author. The same applies to film reviews. I like to know what the acting is like and whether it is suitable for the whole family for example. I like to know what extras are included for a DVD review.

I read too many reviews that are simply a rant about poor goods or service that the reviewer has experienced. Whilst it can be helpful to know about a problem with a product or company too often there is little substance in the review. I would prefer a more balanced review. For example in the case of a product what attracted the reviewer to it in the first place? What was it that went wrong and have the problems been resolved? If it's a company that is at fault then tell me a bit about the company in your opening paragraph so I at least know what the company is involved with! Negative reviews are just as helpful as positive ones if written properly!

When we were looking to buy a new car recently I used Dooyoo as one of my sources of information. The reviews I found most helpful were not the ones with lots of technical information, which was freely available from the dealer's web sites! No, I wanted to know the reviewers personal experience of driving the car. I found a review that told me about driving and owning the car from a woman's perspective. There was information about fuel consumption as well as how comfortable the seats were for children. For me, this is a very helpful car review!

I try to read and rate fairly leaving a comment if I feel I have something useful and relevant to say. I like to get comments so I'm guessing others do too! I don't expect to be revenge rated as has happened in the past. If I think a review is very helpful I rate it as such. If a review contains some useful information but I feel it could have said more then I will rate it as helpful. I don't often rate a review as less than helpful as most reviews do contain some helpful information. I don't enjoy reading reviews that that are written in text speak or have lots of spelling mistakes.

Overall I think there are lots of excellent writers on Dooyoo producing really helpful reviews. To sum up, I think a review should contain not only the technical information needed to decide whether this is the product or service for you but most importantly your own experience of what you are writing about! This for me, will then be rated as very helpful anything less will get a helpful rating. I have rated reviews as not helpful when the writer has clearly made no effort to write anything helpful, but these are few and far between and usually deleted by team Dooyoo anyway!

The ingredients thing is always contentious. I think 'alerts' about certain things (such as your aspartame example) are useful but not sure you need the whole list.

Well done - I don't really need to know the dimensions of a packet of soap powder and the colour of the box - just want to know if its works or not!
