Advantages: learning about new goods and services, enjoying your reading and helping others improve their input to the site
Disadvantages: Takes a bit of time to get through all those opinions!
This site only works if you play by the rules. Most people join the site with a selfish intention to make some fast cash. Otherwise you are one of those irritating non-members that come to the site just to read about what you are off to buy in your lunch hour - pushing opinion reads up without donating a few polite pence to the writer. Anyway, back to the rules... It doesn't take many opinions before you realise that you won't earn much without giving a little in return. If all you do is write, you will have to write a heck of a lot to make a decent bit of cash. So you write write write, and get less and less reads. Why? Because unbeknown to you, you are pushing good opinions fast down the page of new work and doing others out of money for reads. You won't get long to redeem yourself. If you don't heed the advice in your comments and take time to give as well as receive, you will be putting 90% of members noses out of joint, who will remember to avoid you like the plague. So, you start to read and rate. What happens? You find yourself enjoying the read. You begin to take in information you never thought of finding out before. In no time at all, you find you have something to say on just about any topic. Best of all, you shop with confidence, knowing all the gossip that the manufacturers don't tell you. Where to buy it cheapest, what to use it for and which ones to avoid. You also start to pick out writers that you enjoy reading and share interests with you. AND A COMMUNITY IS BORN! RATE fairly. If it is obvious that someone has paid no attention to their opinion and it wouldn't help you in any way if you needed to know the information. Rate it as not useful and include a comment which might turn a new and naive member into a respected earner. It's crueler not to comment and means that there will b
e more of the same churning onto the screen soon. Somewhat useful may go to a writer that meant well but missed out on some major details or confused the hell out of you by awful spelling and unreadable grammar. Useful is a tricky one. Probably 60% of very usefuls should have got a useful but you feel a bit of a git demoting them on a few points. I must confess - if in doubt I always rate up based on how I would take the news myself! You have to judge it on whether it was a good writer bashing one out or an average writer trying their best - the latter gets the VU. As I said before - the system only works if you play fairly. The opinions are stored in their categories in ratings order with the most useful at the top for you to read when you need to research the topic. It is only fair on yourself that you rate honestly, so that the best information is there at the top when you come to needing it. Reading and rating earns you respect and as such may earn you more cash from people taking the time to look you up and read your work as a valued member. This is when comments come into their own. Take the time to add a few words of encouragement at the end of an opinion you just read and it not only warms the cockles of the writer but guides them on anything they may have missed out which they can quickly go back and correct to gain more reads and a better rating. Write in your own style and you will quickly become a personality rather than a screen name. If you write interesting comments, it is just as useful as writing an opinion. You may get people visiting your profile because they agreed more with your comment than the opinion it was written for. AND LASTLY. Dooyoo has just decided to cut the read and rate earning from 5p to 3p as of tomorrow - so there is no better time to read and rate, giving as many 5p's as possible! JUST CALL IT DOOYOO CHRISTMAS!

- 24/10/01 DooYoo has succeeded in pi**ing me off - not through the rate reduction, but by sacking some good freinds who were op-meisters and moving to Madrid.
So i shall ignore the banners and never go to the links via the dooyoo site. |

- 24/10/01 I found this op a bit on the negative side...you don't seem to have a very high opinion of many dooyoo members :) |
