Advantages: Some will get a lot more reward for minimal effort.
Disadvantages: Others won't, including me.
A prediction of the future.
Allow me to present three different reviewers.
***Reviewer A***
First up is SHOUTYCAPS1; they found the site through Google, saw a chance to make a quick buck and set to work. With opinions on everything, they barely have time to scrape their 150 words, let alone the barrel, but they get along somehow. With maybe two or three advantages or disadvantages in a list, their review is still 'Useful' and five fellow Dooyooers (some perhaps our friend SHOUTYCAPS under another name) rate it as such. A fair rating won't be achieved however, because there are so many reviews and no-one has the time to read them all.
They've written a review, it's 'useful' and after a couple of days, their points switch from pending to Amazon vouchers or even a cash bonus if they're churning those reviews out quickly enough.
SHOUTYCAPS doesn't return reads or look at reviews out of interest, after all you don't get paid to read. SHOUTYCAPS1 gets to £100 and happy with their cash, finds a new interest and leaves the site.
It doesn't matter too much though, there are plenty more where SHOUTYCAPS came from.

Next is ComplacentDooyer. Under the new system C.D. still writes a good, well thought out review once a week. The review is well written and researched, covers all points and is generally about as helpful to a buyer as anyone could wish. They loved Dooyoo and writing in general. They constantly put into the community, tried to improve things, joined forums and recruited friends.
They get 50p for writing that latest review and that review is pushed straight off the new reviews page by the highly prolific work of SHOUTYCAPS1. It doesn't go on to get many reads because people read less now that the general quality of reviews has dropped and with more reviews, reading is thinly spread.
Under the old system C.D used to get around 50 reads. This meant 1500 Dooyoo miles or £1.50. To get that now, they'd need; the 50p just for submitting the review and also 67 reads. But due to the higher number of reviews and less reading around in general, they rarely get any nominations and therefore the crowns they used to get dry up too. If they'd got a crown, they might just have made it on to the community page as a featured writer. But they didn't and they're not better off.
***Reviewer C***
Giveitatry was drawn to the site after discovering an interesting and topical review by ComplacentDooyer in Speakers Corner. Although it's not a review about a product, it contained the words they searched for and it drew them in.Realising that there were some interesting reviews and a high quality of writing in this corner, they scoured the site, reading all about products and eventually buying an ice-cream maker through a Dooyoo advertising link. They joined up to help others and read interesting reviews with the money merely a bonus.
Although a pit puzzled by the introduction of this whole new system, they give it a whirl. They'd have loved to enter the 30 reviews in a month competition, but they have a job. To begin with, they're trying to write shorter and more frequent reviews to keep with the new theme. They don't read as often because due to the lack of payment for Speakers Corner reviews, this whole section has dried up. People no longer attract others to the site by discussing the latest news story or telling jokes. Other than a complaints thread about the new miles system, there's naff all worth reading.
Giveitatry gets their head down and starts writing. Their new type of review, although shorter and more frequent, is rushed and skips key points. Advertisers think that although this is better than the work of SHOUTYCAPS1, they don't really want their product displayed next to a review that says almost nothing.
Giveitatry realises that there are other sites to give a try to. They head to these where good, well thought out reviews are commonplace and rewarded.
BUT..... There comes a fourth kind of reviewer. They're not better off under the new system of miles, they're a bit disappointed and they want to tell Dooyoo so. They do it through submitting a damming indictment of the future under a category called Dooyoo Rewards. They know they're going to get a lot of criticism from other members in the comments for not just agreeing to adapt, but they want to say that they were enjoying Dooyoo, the community feel and good quality reviews. They think this might be under threat and they're going to stand up and be counted.
They don't want to be detrimental about anyone else's reviews, but it's the good reviews that they enjoy reading. They've tried writing these short reviews and submitting more frequently and they're definitely not getting increased miles for the same amount of time and effort.
Summary: Are these new miles final, or is there another way?

- 20/02/08 My main complaint would have to be the inability to find decent new reviewers, or other reviewers that I've missed. I completely skip the new reviews section nowadays, rating either those who are in my COF or those who bother to rate mine. But I have to admit the new system does irritate me, as I don't churn reviews and I have noted a significant decrease in rates! |

- 18/02/08 An interesting format for a review. I like the persona's you've crafted to reflect the differing styles of writing, but I think the review just lacks a conclusion which identifies the purpose for using such a writing method. Still, miles more informative and interesting than SHOUTY's 150 word gubbins of total crap... |

- 10/01/08 I can't say I've really noticed so much change, but then I'm not here so much. Something like Ciao's community points would be useful I think, as it'd be easier to spot SHOUTYCAPS and the like. |
