Advantages: Pays betters and a nicer community for writers

Disadvantages: Reviews sometimes not as good as on Ciao?

I have spent a fair amount of time researching and finding the best sites to write reviews for, and came up with three: Dooyoo (of course), Ciao and Qype. I will now compare these in terms of being a writer on opinion sites, and being a 'reader' on opinion sites, by which I mean using the review sites to find out information on something you are intending to spend money on.

WRITING:

In terms of writing, Dooyoo outshines the rest for a few reasons. Firstly, the pay is just so much better - 50p starting rate, with 1.5p per read means you can easily make around 80p a review, and many people make a lot more. My personal average is around 83p, although I have spent a lot of time rating others, and currently have about as many ratings as I have rated others. Either way, it averages 83p for me on Dooyoo. Ciao is a LOT worse; I average around 30p a review on Ciao, and I have only uploaded my very best reviews from Dooyoo (just the much longer ones). On Ciao, you don't get paid for writing the review, but only for reads, so straight away you need a whole bunch of reads just to catch up with Dooyoo's publishing rate. Qype (when I joined) was giving a £50 voucher and an Ipod Shuffle for around 60 reviews, working out at a value of around £1.20 per review, but it wasn't cash. Anyway, they currently have no incentives on, so it's a moot point. So, to conclude this point, you make most money on your reviews with Dooyoo, in my experience.

Another aspect of writing is the comments and feedback from other users. In this regard, Dooyoo again wins by a mile, as the feedback is (generally) positive, and I would say out of 180 reviews I've only had around 5 'arsey' comments. On Ciao.co.uk, it's incredibly cliquey and negative, and I had lots of 'arsey' comments form reviews that I worked very hard on, which was a shame. My Qype reviews have had no feedback at all (I don't think it's the culture there) so here again Dooyoo wins.

READING:

In terms of reading reviews, as in being someone in genuine need of reviews before buying a product, I think that Ciao comes out on top. This is because their reviews tend to be more detailed and well written, which is a bi-product of the nastiness shown to all but the elite. Politics aside, I recently wanted to buy a couple of different things, and found Dooyoo to be mostly filled with reviews that didn't answer my questions, whereas Ciao was the opposite. Qype is made up, mostly, of very short reviews that don't give enough information at all, and is not really useful as a reader (in my opinion!)

In conclusion, as a writer Dooyoo is the best opinion site, with better rewards and friendly members, but as a reader, Ciao comes through in the detail of the average review.

Summary: Dooyoo for writing, Ciao for reading?

I like how people here on Dooyoo really review items and things as opposed to just talking about them or features. People give much more insight into things that can really help you finalize a decision on something. Great review!

I'm surprised that Ciao would have better quality reviews! I haven't bothered submitting any of mine on there. They would need to pay a decent rate first!

The absolutely only thing I prefer on Ciao is the ability to upload pictures, which can be hugely useful. I can't agree on the reads - not least 'cos Ciao cuts off the first paragraph if you try to use Opera!
