What a day to write this. The opinionated community is in termoil!

I had only recently tried ciao out as dooyoo's major competitor. Having got into the swing of things, I was just finding my feet.

Right from the start it was clear to me that dooyoo was king. It was better designed, faster and had many more interesting categories to write in ? not to mention helpful staff on the end of an email!

Ciao gave me problems with everything - from not recognising my log in to posting all my ops in waiting (pending a category allocation) on their site at the same time. This had me branded a churner from the word GO and earning me big fat nowt...

In an attempt to give them one last chance, I posted up some more ops spaced out this time! only to find their technical 'problem du jour' meant that I wouldn't get paid for them either!


Having sweated blood to get my reads and rates of other up to standard - now another bombshell.

Payment is reduced to almost nothing. And actually nothing if you choose a topic that ciao hasn't included in their select few pay worthy subjects (1p per member rating - whooppee!).

Nothing for writing. Well yes, we could see this coming as an attempt to reduce churners.

And the most bizarre and humiliating colour-coded, member rating system you've ever seen.

Unless you have spent the past three years glued to your computer reading and rating like a psychopath - you will be shown up by a coloured blob against your name.

I am apparently blue. I couldn't care less what colour I am, of course but this is apparently a sign to others of my worthiness on the site. I think blue means

"Listen mate, don't bother rating this girl - she's new here and has only rated a few hundred ops - frankly I wouldn't give her the time of day until she's done at least 5,ooo,ooo rates on your ops alone..."

So, let me get this straight:

You don't want to pay us, but you want us to read and rate to save ourselves from the humiliation of a blue, or heaven forbid, white splodge next to our name (OH, THE SHAME!)

You want us to write outstanding, award winning ops for the love of it and to help out the companies concerned. You want us to slave over a hot keyboard clicking on your ad banners and patting others on the back for their award winning ops - for free.

Hmmm. Now let me think....

No, think I'll go back to dooyoo - they love me there - they'll look after me - pay my rent, soothe my aching pride and nurse my wounds...


BUT WAIT>>> WHAT'S THAT SKIPPY?

Sad but true. They've got us in a strangle hold. If we hadn't just come limping and sobbing from ciao, we'd tell dooyoo what we thought of them and march out en mass.

Sadly though, there's nowhere else for us to go - and we've got things to say, rants to rage, chests to get things off.

So, ultimately we'll lick our wounds and get on with it.

We'll stay with dooyoo as the best of a bad (well economically hit) lot.

We won't get our 10p for writes. Never mind - i't'll tidy away some churners - fair enough.

3p per read? Well it's better than ciao - so we'll take it.

Who knows what will be the final outcome. Maybe it's for the best? Maybe dooyoo will weigh up how many members it loses as a result and reverse the decision?

Or maybe it's the right decision and we'll end up with a better than ever quality site with a friendly community that all meet in Starbucks on the weekend?

Whatever.

Time will tell.
