Advantages: none at all

Disadvantages: endanger the lives of yourself and friends

This is one topic I personally feel very strongly about - as I myself was injured by a drunk driver and one of my best friends was killed by one.

nearly three years ago I was involved in a car accident - in which unaware to me at the time - the driver had consumed alcohol i would not say he was drunk drunk but the presence of alcohol was there - therefore making him a DRINK DRIVER. We hit a tree at a high speed - and I broke my back resulting in me being left in a wheelchair for the rest of my life time ( and i'm only 21 so its going to be a long time )There was five people in the car but I was the only one who had serious injuries.

I am so against drink driving - don't these people stop to think before they open their car doors when the leave licence premises. They never think it will happen to them - as well as the chance they could injure or kill someone they never stop to think about their own safety.

The whole idea of drink driving is complete madness. Many people are killed on our roads each year as a result of drink driving - leaving many homes with a missing person and years of heartache. A good friend of mine was killed the same night as I had my accident. He was only 19 at the time and was due to celebrate his birthday the following week - his family have been torn to pieces by this and to this very day have never got over the pain and sorrow of losing their youngest child. The driver of his car was never punished and walked away scott free.

Just today in a local court case a man got 5 years in prison and 8 years banned from driving for killing a two year old boy while under the influence of alcohol. But i ask the question ' is this enough punishment for some one who has taken away a life ?' consider a man who goes out a shots a person for a political reason he gets a life prison sentence - WHATS THE DIFFERENCE? a life has been lost a home has been destroyed.

I congradulate the campaigns sho
wn at christmas - although you may think them very harsh - hopefully they have got the message across to some people - i say some people as there will always be those who will never take any notice and will continue to go out and wreck the lifes of others.

The legal limit should be axed completely and it should be the case that you are prohibited from driving in you have nay drink at all ( everyone has different consumption levels and different ways of handling alcohol) i also think the punishment for death by drink driving should be a lot more heavy.

My god. What can I say? Only that you're writing is extraordinarily restrained given the tragedies you've been through.

I agree entireley, no matter what your tolerance, don't do it - there's no need. I am appalled and saddened to hear of such incidents as you have suffered. Good Op.
