I love sport, the passion, the excitement, the glory of being better than everybody else, but what price would you pay to be the best. I personally believe that the majority of athletes at the olympics are on some sort of drug, whetever it is legal or illegal, they will all be taking some form of supplement to aid them in their quest for glory. I feel strongly about this problem, because I remember watching Linford Christie winning the gold medal in 1992, it was a fantastic moment, a man who had struggled all his life to get to the top finally making it, a man who seemed to detest the use of any substance that would help performance, a man who did it all through his own strength, determination, and the hope that one day he would be the best, now that same man is exposed as a drugs cheat. How can we ever trust an athlete again after this betrayal. Look at Marion Jones, the American queen whos husband has been caught out, are we supposed to believe she knew nothing of his drug taking?, oh really if that is the case then she needs to get a divorce, or tell her old man to get some new drug that can't be detected by tests yet. In conclusion, it is a tragedy that the many athletes who are clean, and work themselves into the ground in the hope of reaching their dream, are tarnished with the same reputation as the many, many cheats out there, I say that the IAAF need to spend a lot more money on making sure that they can detect illegal substances, until then I am afraid that the cheats will prosper, and the clean will join them just so that they will have the chance to compete.
