Advantages: fast sprinting
Disadvantages: morally its a cauldron
Greetings fellow sport fans. How is your post world cup hangover coming along? Sorry about that, suppose you had nearly forgotten that goal that ronaldhino MEANT to score? I know its a sad situation when cricket arrives on our tv's but not long to go unitil the new season starts. I have to admit that im not overly clued up on 'drugs in sport', personally i think they should be kept when and truly in the home. Anyway, i lived with a few sports scientists and they appeared to be highly opinionated on the issue, mostly disagreeing (is that areal word, it looks wrong to me some how?). Ive heard all the arguments about how unfair it is to 'legitimate' athletes and i understand that. I am not here to condem, i am here to offer an alternative. My thoughts on this were brought up at the last winter olypics when the US snowboarder got robbed of his gold medal for testing for drugs. Although normally performance enhancing, he had been smoking marijuana! hhmm...Performance enhancing you say? My solution is this. Everyone knows that people will always cheat. If they think they can get away with it, then they will try and get away with it. For every drug test that comes along, some evil 'pharmacist' will be making a cocktail to combat it. So why not let them? Split the athletics world (im not sure how it would work with other sports) into 2. Those who want to take drugs and those who dont. Do not persecute either group, for it is THEIR decision. Now let them race in their own field. We could have the 'regular' olympics and the 'drug olympics' and so on for every event. Now i know some will criticise and perhaps rightly so. I know some will laugh at what they see as shear lunacy, maybe. This is just an idea, that probably shouldnt be taken to seriously, or should it? It probably has much more chance of sorting out the current group of 'cheaters, losers and reprebates who are jepodising the spor
t at the moment. The cheaters who bring questions over Paula Radcliffes inspiring run on Tuesday at the European Championships. There is an advantage of such a ludicrous idea as well. Although morally (moral issues are always valid and i ask you to make your own on this, im not saying either way) it may be questioned, imagine this. At the 'drug olympics' The 100 may be ran in 7 seconds, there may be a 2 minute mile, a 15 second 200. The possibilities are endless. You can not argue with the spectacle of watching someone run the 100 metres in 7 seconds, CAN YOU?

- 09/08/02 I think I agree with you. As long as the clean sport remains clean and the drug sport doesn't get polluted.... then yes, makes perfect sense.... |
