Advantages: Its funny at the time
Disadvantages: Hangovers, embarrassment health issues.
At some point in their lives most people have at least one drunken experience. Some learn from it and never get that drunk again or may never even drink again. Or others swear they will never do that again however do... and on more than one occasion. As you can probably guess I'm in the latter category.
I have gone through university and came out with a first class degree and enjoyed every minute of the uni experience. I struck the balance between studying really hard but also partying hard, whilst living away from home, (I bought my house at the end of the second year). Between the ages of 18-21 whilst at uni I got drunk but don't think I ever got in a real state or embarrassed myself and could always remember what had gone on the night before (in detail much to the dismay of some of my party pals), I wasn't the bore in the group but I was never the person who was classed as the "drunk.
Even before uni I went out from the age of 16 and went clubbing on a weekly basis. I knew my limits, whilst I drank quite a lot I never enough to make myself ill or forget what had gone on. The worst thing I ever done was on the way home from a night out was play on the swings on the play park next to my parents house whilst singing we are the champions! I had let myself get ill once at a house party aged 16 drinking, ouzo, cider and vodka, I threw up in the bathroom made my excuses and left. That was my first hangover and probably my last one until I started uni two years later.
The common view is that with age apparently "we learn our lesson" when it comes to alcohol. In our teens its' a time we get bladdered, and learn our drinking limits and are excused from our behaviour some how because of our youth and lack of drinking experience. Uni is the next step where we spend most of our days in the pub, and students try to get drunk on a budget!
So why from the age of 22 working in a very responsible job with a stable home life do I become a nightmare when drunk.... There is no logical excuse, reason or life changing event that has made me act this way!! I'm a crazy drunk and as a result I have had a number of embarrassing, yet funny drunken experiences, which I have been lucky to get out of unscathed.
These are three of them:
Casino- Jan 2008
My boyfriend and I decided to make the most of some free drinks vouchers so went out and Iended up quite tipsy and in the casino. It was quite embarrassing for my boyfriend as we sat at the BlackJack table and we kept winning and I kept shrieking. After winning quite a bit at this point we moved onto the Roulette table where luck was on our side. After sitting for a while I stood up leaving the bar stool behind me
I hadn't realised that the guy next to me had moved the stool so he could sit on it. I went to sit down only to fall to the floor. Bad enough that I fell on my bum (which gave me a huge bruise) but I flashed at the croupier and the people on the other side of the table as I was wearing a dress! Even worse I had a glass of wine in my hand which I poured all over myself soaking my hair . Trying to get up I knocked over side table of drinks. The other people at the table obviously found it so entertaining they didn't shout at me. This was the only time I was upset that we had money to cash out as I had to stand at the cash out desk with wine soaked hair unable to make a fast exit! I don't think I have ever been back to the casino since!
Cyprus 2008
Although relatively chilled for 75% of the holiday, my infamous dance moves were perfected on stage and tables in any bar I had the chance to do this in. I ended up on a mechanical rodeo bull in another bar. I stayed on for a long time (well around 40 seconds), however I lost 3 fingernails from gripping on so tight and had two huge bruises on the insides of my thighs
Jumping in the pool drunk, playing hurdles with sun lougers also featured. This was not in a tacky 18-30's hotel either... this was a lovely 5* hotel aimed at the "adult" market.
Pre Xmas night out - Dec 2008
As part of a work night out I went out for a pre Christmas meal. This was not with people I work with on a daily basis but know well as we are on the same development programme. The meal was awful and as a result I probably got my way through over a bottle of wine to wash down the awful food (that everyone else loved) trying to be polite.
We then went out after to a few bars and I had various drinks, champagne, cocktails, spirits, alcopops and even shots. 90% of the group were male so I was drinking at the same rate as the guys were. As the night went on the group of 16 ended down to 7 of us going clubbing, me and 6 guys. Again in a dress and 5 inch high heels I danced around like a crazy woman, thinking back I cringe as I was making them all dance with me. One of them tripped me up and I ended up falling down. I'm not the strongest but ended up pulling this guy over with me in the middle of the club, making most people on the dancefloor look at us.
About 10 minutes later I walked out of the toilets not realising I had caught the tied part of my dress on my top half which had come loose meaning I was flashing so much so I may as well have just stood in my bra! Walking through the bar to find the remaining six of the group I was so drunk I didn't notice the strange looks I was getting. All of the group just looked at me for about 30 seconds, the look on the guys faces was mixed, shock, pleased and others just bewildered. The kind souls took a photo before telling me what was wrong and decided to post the photo on facebook. Cheers guys!
Some of these experiences I have limited memory of, but believe me my friends and family have filled me in.....
I'm very lucky that I haven't seriously injured myself or had something bad happen to me. It is worrying and I do realise I need to be more careful before anyone tells me that!! I can't promise it will never happen again but I will try my hardest to try and make sure this doesn't happen. I have managed to make it through 8 big nights out since the pre Christmas night out without any embarrassing incidents which I am calling progress. I plan to take it easy from now on... As my mother says its not big and its not clever!
Summary: Drunken moments!
