If the Tri-Nations Series has shown anything, it is the importance of having bowlers such as Ealham, along with Mullally and White, who can contain batsmen. His bowling isn't particularly complicated, and he usually only takes wickets when the batsman makes a mistake. However, his strength is bowling a consistent line and length, with variation of pace, making it hard for the batsman to score runs, and pressurising them into mistakes. Mark Ealham is a consistent county player for Kent, but I don’t see him having a future with England. I’ve seen him a few times recently in the One-day tournament and although he bowls well for a medium paced bowler and does get swing he is also the weaker of the bowlers. He can bowl 5 good balls in an over then a poor one, which is unfortunate because if he didn’t he would almost certainly be up there with White and Cork. His slow ball is disguised very well and he can cause problems to some batsmen but he simply doesn’t have the variation in pace and lengths that Cork does.
