Advantages: none

Disadvantages: can make you ill

Eating disorders such as Bulemia and Anorexia are becoming more and more common in young women. Teenagers especially feel that they are too fat and need to loose weight. I think that a lot of this is due to the pictures in magazines of thin models and people like Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. Although you cannot entirely blame models you have to admit that everyone wants to be as pretty and thin as them, this is why a lot of women become bullimic or anorexic.

There is also a problem with over eating, although it isn't as big as not eating or making yourself sick it still can be quite a serious matter. When people become depressed for some reason they tend to eat more and more to comfort themselves. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being fat but is you do eat too much this can cause problems with your health.

One of my friends was anorexic last year and it showed me how serious this could actually be. She used to hardly eat anything when she came over, when we went out for meals she would just have a salad and even left some of that. For a long time she wouldn't admit that she had a problem. If you do admit that you have a problem then you are already half way to recovery. It went on for months but then after a while she became very thin and beagan to get ill, and no matter how thin she got she always thought she was too fat. I rang a helpline and they gave me some advice. I talked to my friend and we discussed her problem. After a bit of persuasion she went and saw her doctor. She began eating again and is now as normal as ever. This was a big eye opener for me and I do think that if you have a problem or a friend does with eating then you should get help and advice. There arealways people to talk to and you don't need to feel embarrased.

I don't think that models are the main cause in eating disorders, but they do play a small part. There is a lot of influence on people.
Diets are also a good way to loose wei
ght as long as you do them properly and get advice from your doctor first.
Eating Disorders, I think, are caused by what people think of themselves, whether they believe they're fat or thin. Everybody deals with things in different ways. But if you or someone you know is having problems then it would be a good idea to speak to someone about it.
