Eddy Guerrero.....pound for pound one of the best wrestlers in the business today. Inside the ring, he is the very incarnation of intensity, displaying slick aerial manoeuvres and solid mat technique. On the mic, he mixes brash machismo with a pointed sense of humour for a combination few other wrestlers can top. Outside of the ring, he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. you will ever meet.

Eduardo Guerrero was born in Juarez, Mexico in 1968 as the youngest son of wrestling legend Salvador “Gory” Guerrero Quesada. Young Eddy was raised in El Paso, Texas and while growing up watched his older brothers Salvador “Chavo” Guerrero Jr., Mando and Hector share the spotlight with their famous father. Eddy made his in-ring debut in 1987 in Mexico and has success in the native country and Japan before coming to the attention of Philadelphia-based Extreme Championship Wrestling. ECW was interested in Guerrero and his partner “Love Machine” Art Barr, who made up “Los Gringos Locos” (The Crazy Americans). When Art died suddenly in 1994 at just 28 years of age, Eddy adopted his finisher - the Frog Splash as a tribute to his late friend.

Eddy went to ECW alone where he quickly made a name for himself. He won the TV Title in his debut match against Too Cold Scorpio and went on to wrestle a series of matches with Dean Malenko that were dubbed the “Guerrero/Malenko Classic” by fans. New Japan Pro Wrestling went on to strike a talent exchange deal with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) that same year and ordered Eddy and Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko (who all still worked for NJPW part-time) to either sign with WCW or not work in Japan anymore. The 3 chose WCW.

He joined WCW in 1996 along with his friends and fellow New Japan Pro Wrestling workers Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko. On January 1st, 1999 Eddy was seriously injured after he fell asleep at the wheel of his car. He was ejected
from his car and thrown 100 feet, sustaining a broken pelvis and punctured liver. He was extremely lucky to survive. Amazingly, against doctors predictions he is back in the ring within six months! He would later come back to regret his quick return however....

Eddy held the Cruiserweight titles and U.S. Heavyweight Championships during his time there. He was also the leader of the Latino World Order (a sort of spoof of the NWO) and a member of the Filthy Animals (with Konnan, Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr.) faction during his time in Turner town.

Guerrero made his WWF debut on January 31st 2000 along with Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko (them again) and Perry Saturn when they showed up on Raw is War. Unfortunately though, Eddy severely dislocated his elbow in only first WWF match. In efforts to protect his recently operated on and still injured elbow, Eddy lands awkwardly on his good arm, and injures it in the process. (How unlucky can you get)? Eddy has won the WWF Intercontinental and European titles so far in his WWF tenure.

Eddy lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife and two daughters and is currently in a rehab clinic for his addiction to pain killers. The addiction probably developed because of the constant plague of injuries he has suffered since that serious car crash in early ’99. Maybe returning so quickly wasn’t such a good idea after all??!!

I wish Eddy a speedy recovery. El Gringo Loco para siempre!!!

It's a shame he's had a lot of bad luck lately. I doubt it will be a while before we see him back in the WWF.
