Advantages: Small so relatively easy to display

Disadvantages: Can be expensive now and they need dusting!

I first began collecting egg cups, known as pocillovy, at the end of the 70s. I wanted to collect something different, with a history and that wasn't too expensive - a pocket money hobby.
Browsing around my local antique shop the woman there suggested egg cups as there were plenty around, often for less than £1 each, and not many people collected them.
Since then I have collected them on an occasional basis and now have a collection of over 100. They have become popular recently and the price has begun to climb, especially if bought from antique dealers. However, you can still find them in 'junk shops' and car boot sales at reasonable prices. My oldest one is Victorian and although I tend to avoid modern ones I have some recent ones that I think may be rare or valuable in a few years.
The range of designs seems infinite some are single, others sets of four, they are made from wood, metal, china, some were promotional, some part of a dinner service - as I said, it seems infinite.
They look decorative when displayed and often attract atttention from visitors. A fun thing to collect.
