There was a time when asking for a girl’s hand in marriage was the done thing. THE PROPOSAL Not the most romantic I suppose, we worked together and at lunchtime one Friday had been to the pub with the rest of our colleagues. Getting engaged...everybody dreams of the perfect proposal. Dinner out with an engagement ring sitting in the champagne glass, Romantic walk and he drops onto one knee. If only everyone was as romantic as that. The first time I got engaged with my ex partner was maybe a little romantic in thought but not the way he did it. I grew up dreaming of romance, waiting for the day that I would go down on one knee before the woman I knew in the deepest well of my soul that I wanted to share my life with forever, and ask her to be with me for eternity. Of course it would be in a romantic ancient city, maybe Prague or Central park in New York, or at the grand canyon. Of course I would ask her father for permission to marry her. When I was younger I used to sit there and imagine what it must be like when a guy asks you to marry him. I used to imagine that it would take place in a great romantic setting after an extremely romantic day and then the guy would be so nervous about asking and that I would cry and then everything would be perfect.
