For many years now, we have had a fantastic U21 side. This was mainly due to the excellent coaching skills of Peter Taylor and also to the quality of the players available. For a long time now, Keegan, like Hoddle before him, has been too loyal to players when he should have been ruthless. Selecting Tony Adams as captain is a prime example. If you look now, it is easy to name eleven players who would grace an England jersey and are under 25. Here is my ideas:

1. Richard Wright
2. Gary Neville
3. Jon Harley
4. Frank Lampard
5. Jonathon Woodgate
6. Rio Ferdinand
7. David Beckham
8. Paul Scholes
9. Michael Owen
10. Robbie Fowler/Emile Heskey
11. Nick Barmby

This is forgetting the likes of Sol Campbell, Kevin Phillips, Nigel Martyn, Steven Gerrard and a host of other players. There is not a derth of talent, just a lack of managerial courage to blood the younger players. France have an embarrassment of riches in their national side and I do not believe that they are any more talented than ours. Let us see what they can do, rather than keep with the misery of Dennis Wise/Paul Ince/Tony Adams/David Seaman/Gareth Southgate etc. I think that they will make us proud.

Cheers,

Thank you for listening.
