Advantages: None!

Disadvantages: Scary!

Thanks for your story of Marley's epileptic seizures. I had a very similar experience with my beagle, Woodstock. She started off out of the blue with "cluster seizures" and it was very scary. I discovered this about 5 in the morning, and was waiting at the vet's office at 7 when they opened. They sedated her and sent me to a neurologist/hospital, and they kept her overnight and performed an MRI, blood tests, and the brain fluid that you described. This only ruled out everything except "ideopathic epilepsy" or no known cause. ($3,000 later, and NO insurance!) This was about 4 months ago, and the reason I googled this now was because she just had her first seizures since the initial onset, and I was wondering if the summer heat had something to do with it. We have just had our first hot days of the year, and she had seizures two days in a row. In my release papers from the vet, it said that she may have seizures about every 4 months, and it has been almost exactly four months. As scary as it is to watch your dog have seizures, today my son was running with his high school cross country team, and one of the boys in our carpool collapsed in a seizure with no previous history of seizures, and that put this all in perspective!

Summary: Expensive diagnosis!
