Sven is a hero. When people speak of this 'foreign manager', they forget that the Premier League that we rate so highly, and indeed the team that dominates it, are full of non-English staff. Where were you born Fabian? Exeter was it? And you Roy? Merseyside?

Sven is a Swede. Obviously, the tabloids have and will hassle the man for the failings of a less proficient manager in the past (no names mentioned, Mr.Taylor). However, dare I say he comes from a country where the attitude to sport and life in general is far more disciplined than in England. His recent statement to the press tht England players will not be allowed to drink was testimony to this. Perhaps he will kick some England players into achieving what we all know they are capable of.

Sven is a great manager. We should all be excited such a man is in charge of our team. He is not a Hoddle, he will not humiliate players deliberately. He is not a Keegan, he has some idea of tactics. He is a Sven. And with Sven Goran Eriksson comes a huge depth of knowledge of the European game, and an excellent coaching record (do not forget he left Lazio having made them into Serie A champions. Good luck to the guy. The swedes have taught us a couple of footballing lessons in the last decade, perhaps they can teach us a few more...
