Advantages: Er, rude stuff, Opportunity for new discussion, More revenue and reads
Disadvantages: Bad apples spoiling it?
Well this is a forgotten question, it seems. No posts for months. does this mean no demand, or does it mean that the people who might post opinions and read them are going elsewhere? The answer is a definite yes. The very fact that this question is being asked is a key factor. As is the revenue brought in to the foreign Dooyoo's. There are few arguments against an erotic category, mainly because anyone buying or using such products and then writing on a public forum about them is reasonably unlikely to write anything offensive enough to have such a category removed. In theory something with risk can be self-sustaining, because those in control of the risk (the writers) would be foolish to harm their category. People spend days writing these things, so seeing them deleted would be quite disappointing! Similarly the content would be no more offensive than that of users like the infamous Jockgoose, who wrote rubbish and plagiarised dozens of people to get reads. He was soon gone, and there was a clear indication of boredom with his mischievous pursuit in the content of the opinions - I read them all before they were removed and they went from offensive to hilarious. There are scores of potentially offensive posts and comments - just browse through Speaker's Corner! When we think logically, what could be written about that is so worrying? Sex aids? Videos? Escort services? Well we already have several posts about prostitution which no-one seems to worry about. I would struggle to think of a product that would really be offensive to read about. The manufacturers of the sort of products that Dooyoo would consider "erotic" are not in the position to be able to do a lot of market research. How saleable would the sort of qualitative and quantitative data be to them as an industry? I can't answer that, but coming from a marketing background, I know it isn't worthless. Surely while Dooyoo is comi
ng under enormous pressure from it's members about the new layout and relaunch, the addition of a new category would be nothing but beneficial. I am personally not bothered about it, but as a human would certainly read articles about such products if I felt I could find something out that I might find difficult to get meaningful information on elsewhere. So Dooyoo, why not try it and see how it goes. Views people?

- 10/10/02 It would have been interesting if the powers that be had given us the stats on most people's opinions and the official descision! |

- 10/10/02 Oh bring it on as far as I'm concerned. My little darlings won't be corrupted by a few electric willy opinions I doubt.
As to why no posts? Well, I dare say it's yet another question about content that dooyoo forgot they asked. It's not advertising content, is it? So I don't spose they give a stuff if we post here or not. They can't even physically add new categories just now, and haven't been able to for months. Content is their bottom priority as far as I can tell. Ooh, that reminds me. I must head off to see if the second announced Thursday Crown Day has seen the award of any crowns. I bet you a pound to a penny it ain't. The only site announcement they make they don't stick to.
Sigh @ dooyoo. Bitter, moi? Grin! |
