Advantages: sometimes live, good commentators, better than F1
Disadvantages: never on time, plays second fiddle to less important sports, the adverts
I'm a big CART fan (the premier open-wheel championship in the US - coming to Rockingham in 2001 - for the uninitiated).
Its also live on British Eurosport - well thats what we had in the past and were promised this year. The trouble is Eurosport promise the race at 1 time and because of over-running table tennis or tractor pulling - it always starts late.
Last Sunday - British Eurosport were due to show the race at 10pm (edited hightlights). What was on then - live tennis. Thankfully for Venus Williams she realised that there many CART fans who wanted to watch the race and she polished off Davenport in 2 sets. After reviewing the sports news of the day - the race was finally shown at 11.15pm.
No apology - no message - nothing. Eurosport can't even get their times right in the TV schedules - its beyond me how they run the company.
Once it comes on - they have a pair of enthusiastic British commentators who know their stuff - one is Ben Edwards. They invite celebrities into their commentary box for a chat whilst the race is on. At Michigan - Johnny Herbert explained his new found conversion to CART.
This good stuff is interspersed by adverts - for the Australia olympics over & over again - you know with that Irish guy standing on the bridge in Sydney - will he jump ? The adverts are not even proper commercial adverts - so why repeat them every 5 minutes ?
Its got to the point where I sometimes listen to the race live from the States on internet radio on WWW.CART.COM and watch the table of leaders. Its a bit sad but its on when they say it is !!!

- 30/09/00 I agree completely. Its complete pot luck with the times, and they cut laps out of the highlights.

- 05/09/00 Do you remember last season or the season before , when they showed some African Nations cup football final live instead of the Cart. It went to extra time , and fair play to Eurosport theyt stuck with the footy until the penallty shoot out. Sadly both teams scored the first 4 penos and then team A scored the fifth , as team B's man stood up to the ball ESports coverage ended.( It was bang on the hour so I guess the Satelite was needed for something else) They then showed a 30 ish minute preview programme for the CART and about the last two laps live.
( Oh and then told us he missed it)
If Eurosport were at school , their reports would always say "Time keeping - could do better" .. A lot better in my opinion. I think I've missed at least some of half the races this season due to some sort of timing misinformation. I wish the BBC would buy it!!!
