Advantages: no more pain

Disadvantages: -

Euthanasia is always a delicate subject for some people, I remember at school when we would discuss it it certain lessons, some students would refuse to listen or even attend the lesson. We all have our own views on the subject, some for, some against and some unsure. Well, im for it.

From the moment we can talk, walk etc. We make our own choices, when we were young we chose what toys to play with. As we grew into adults we made choices about our careers, friends, clothes, hair, where we live, everything! But we never have the choice as to when we are going to die. We all know it will happen to us someday, and noboby can tell how or when. So we all just carry on with life, making our choices. But what if our life was filled with pain and suffering? When we cannot live our lives the way we chose, due to illness. We have the right, to have the choice : live, or die.

Imagine, you had had a long happy life. In your late 70's wife, kids, grandkids, retired from a job you loved. The lot. Then imagine 1 day you wake up with this great life, and by the evening your sat there after being told you've got cancer. You might decide you want to fight it, you won't let it beat you. But quickly you deteriorate, until your a frail shadow of your former self. Both my Nan and Grandad suffered from cancer, and died. If anyone has ever had to go through the trauma of a loved 1 getting cancer, they will understand. Everytime I looked at my Nan, you could see inside there was no hope left. Months of lying in a hospital bed, being poked and prodded, morphine drip. Waiting until the cancer drains the last bit of life away from you. I was always close with my Nan, I couldn't recognize her anymore. Every visit become harder. After afew months, my Nan passed away peacefully in her sleep. It was some comfort, that finally she was away from the pain and nightmare that is cancer.

If I ever find myself in that situation, I would like to know the choice was there. That I had that control on my life still. No-one has a right to say Euthanasia is illegal. Yes, it may be wrong in some peoples eyes, but if they was ever in that situation. I bet their mind would change. Euthanasia is not murder. Murder is killing someone in cold blood, for no apparent reason. Euthanasia is ending someones life in a dignified way, so the person can finally be at peace.

For those in situations with cancer, etc, that decide to carry on fighting, they're some of the strongest people alive. But deciding towards euthanasia isn't a weakness. Its the bravest thing a person could do, as who knows what awaits? But they should be able to have that choice. Our life, our choice.

Summary: Our life, our choice.
