Before I discovered the wonders of Shiseido Eyelash Curlers (I have also reviewed these) I tried having my eyelashes permed. I have typical oriental eyelashes: very short, fine and dead straight. So I wanted to have them permed before I went on a holiday, so I didn't have to mess about with eyelash curlers and mascara. I had them permed at a proper salon in Woking, called Body & Beauty Studio. I'd never been there before, but it seemed like a reputable salon and I had a 20% discount so I paid £24 instead of £30. They also specialise in Jinnylash extensions, so I was confident they were well qualified to look after my eyes! Before I could have my eyelashes permed, I had to have a sensitivity patch test at least 24 hours before. This meant a slightly inconvenient extra visit to the salon, but like doing the sensitivity test before dying my hair, I knew it was better to be safe than sorry. Plus, this instilled confidence in me that the salon knew what they were doing and that they would do the job properly. The sensitivity test didn't take long, about 5-10 minutes for the beautician to dab some solution onto my skin to see if I would have a bad reaction. I went home and luckily I didn't have an adverse reaction and I returned the following day for the perming. I had to lie down on a bed and the beautician pressed my eyelashes individually around some small rollers and then applied some water soluble glue to my eyelashes. Unfortunately, because my eyelashes are so short she found this more difficult than usual, but not impossible and after a while she managed to get the little critters under control. I expected to feel some pain as she tried to manoeuvre my stubborn little lashes around the rollers, but I felt no discomfort at all. The perming lotion is then applied and this had to be left on for about 15 minutes, so I was left to lie and relax whilst listening to the radio. I'm pleased to say that I didn't notice an overpowering smell of perming lotion, as it's quite a mild solution. Once the perming lotion had worked its magic, the beautician then applied a neutraliser to be left on for approximately 10-15 minutes. Finally my eyelashes were gently wiped to remove the rollers and I was allowed to inspect the results. Not being blessed with the most lovely of eyelashes, I wasn't expecting to suddenly look like I was from a Maybelline mascara advert, but I was pleased with the results. My eyelashes were definitely curly, but in a natural looking way and they were beautifully separated, so the beautician had done a great job. Unfortunately my fiancé didn't really notice the difference, but then again he doesn't really notice when I've normally curled my lashes and put mascara on. That's not down to him being inattentive, but because my lashes are just so short and generally hard to see. I still had to put mascara on my permed lashes to make them look darker and thicker, so perming doesn't negate your whole beauty routine. They say you can expect your lashes to stay curled for up to 6 weeks and I would say mine looked curled for about 4 weeks, as only the tips appeared curly due to regrowth of the lashes. For me personally, it wasn't really worth the time and expense, but someone with longer lashes would get a much more dramatic result than me. I haven't had my eyelashes permed again, a) because it's too expensive and b) because I discovered fantastic eyelash curlers! If you're thinking of having this done then please go to a reputable salon where they will insist on a sensitivity test, as you've only got one pair of eyes so it's not worth the risk of taking shortcuts! You should expect the treatment to take around 45 minutes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: They now also offer a new type of eyelash perm called LVL, which stands for Length, Volume and Lift, and it is by Nouveau Contour. Apparently this makes the lashes look longer and slightly straighter than an eyelash perm, but the lift and separation of the lashes is much better. This technique has appeared on 10 Years Younger and does look really good. This treatment costs £65 and it includes an eyelash tint, so this treatment would probably have been better suited to me.
Eyelash Perm - Instant Curl!I had my eyelashes permed recently and have to say I am hooked on this service. The specialist at Beauty Marks did an awesome job. I couldn't believe how curled my straight, lifeless lashes became. It's been six weeks now and I still have curl. I am getting it done again in a few weeks and will be getting my eyeliner done too. Very excited! I recommend this service to those who want WOW lashes..
I am a Beauty Therapist and have done about 15 eyelash perms.I did one last week on a client and they did not seem to curl much. She had beautifully long, dark, straight lashes. Does anyone know what I could do to get a curl. I have heard that you cannot always get a curl with really straight lashes.I use the Spanish eyelash perm, the name I cannot recall, but starts with "Thya,,,"
I'm a fully qualified beautician and i provide eyelash perming to clients, and it is absolutely fantastic. It gives instant results and does take around 45 minutes. I know it sounds a long time but eyes are very sensetive so you need to be very careful. If you can't see an instant result do NOT pay for the treatment. The therapist should talk you through your treatment and tell you what to avoid once done. My friends going on holiday and i done it for her last night. She has very long and straight lashes so it took me longer to curl the lashes around the roller, but i persivered and they look beautiful. If anyone needs any advice please just ask. It's well worth the money.
I had my eyelashes permied and tinted at the same time. Initially I thought them too curled but after a day they had relaxed a tiny bit. The process was easy. I had a patch test 24hrs before. I don't bother with mascara now!
My eyelashes are longer, but were beginning to droop and flatten. I was tired of using the eyelash curler as it seemed to damage, so i tried perming with mixed results. My right eye took perfectly, but for some reason she insisted on leaving my left one on longer. The middle portion of my left eyelases were fried, and the outer end not curled. Touch up resulted in WAY too tight of curl on left.
Went last nite to have my first eyelash perm. Was very nervous, but the girl put me at ease and it was a simple procedure. NO discomfort at all. Also had them tinted at the same time. Went with the medium sized rollers but will make it the smaller size next time. For a first time session, I was very pleased with the results, the whole session took 45 minutes with instant results. Didn't really see the full effect till I put my makeup/mascara on this morning and THEN I saw how nice it made my eyes!! Already made my next appointment!!!!
I had my eyelashes permed and tinted and absolutely love them. I went to Beauty Marks in Sacramento, CA (916) 454-5477. It's so nice not to have to curl or apply mascara. I recently went on vacation and looked refreshed all the time.
Before having this procedure done, I read the reviews on here. I refused to believe that this procedure would not satisfy me. I have always had very flat, but long eyelashes and would try anything possible to change that. I went in to get my lashed permed a couple of days ago. She had me laying down with my eyes closed for an hour, she then glued something on my eyelids that I'm guessing were curlers. She then took the time to seperate my lashes and glue them on to the curlers, then she pulled my bottom lids, making sure none of the bottom lashes were on the curler. She applied a solution on my eyelashes that smelled horrible, waited about 10 minutes, and then applied another that I couldn't really smell. She then applied something else on my lashes, but I'm not sure what if was. After the procedure was over, she removed the curlers which hurt a bit because of the glue, and told me that the glue was weighing my lashes down and that they would curl after i showered. I asked her if I would be able to see the difference then because I couldn't at the time and she replied saying yes. Its been a couple of days and I STILL haven't seen a difference. The procedure was about $40 and I'm very disappointed. I'm in the process of calling and complaining, asking for her to re-do it.
Had this done and feel VERY sexy. I wake up first thing and even though I usually look tired, my eyes look open and alert. The process- I was advised to have a test patch which was done a week prior to the perm. It involved putting 3 different solutions on the inside of my arm at the elbow. This is essential to rule out alergic reaction. When I arrived I lay on a couch and first my eyelids were gently cleaned. Then a solution was used to glue my lashes around a small roller which was placed above my top lashes. A perming solution was then gently applied. My eyes were then covered with pads and I was left for 10 minutes whilst the solution worked it's magic. Next a neutraliser was applied and again I was left to relax whilst this did the business. I did feel a very slight stinging - well not exactly stinging more of a tingling sensation, but this lasted only a few seconds. Next a moisturising solution was applied and my eye area was gently wiped to remove any remaining solution. Then came the reveal- I looked in the mirror and WOW! My lashes looked beautiful. What a transformation! Much more dramatic than I'd ever achieved with my eyelash curlers. My eyes were slightly pink for about an hour afterwards, but this soon disappeared. I couldn't stop looking in the mirror to admire them! If I look extremely closely the occasional lash seems to have gone astray , but a lash comb helps to sort those, and they are not noticeable unless you are right up close. I've tried applying mascara (which to tell you the truth isn't really needed now, but for a more dramatic look if you're going out is nice). Now this is going to take a bit of practice, because my eyelashes are curled I keep getting the mascara on my top lid whilst applying so it's taking quite some time to get used to. I usually apply my mascara with my eyes open but as I said it gets on my top lid so I'm trying a new technique of applying it with my eye closed. I also think that applying it minimally is recommended as because they already look so long and beautiful too much and you start to look like Aunt Sally! I think I might have them tinted instead.
I have just had my eyelashes permed for the first time and I am more than thrilled with the results. The beautician explained the prodedure carefully and mentioned that because my lashes were not overly long, I may want to try eyelash extension in the future. However, the results were far better than I or even she expected. I opted for extra curly and I have not had to put any eyeshadow or mascara on at all. This is coming from someone who wouldn't leave the house without lashings of mascara. I think I will opt to have them tinted next time as well, as apparently this heightens the effect and lasts longer. The only downside is that I experienced slightly puffy/red eyelids near the eyelashes as she left the chemical formula on a little longer to ensure that it worked properly. It settled down within 12 hours. If you have overly sensitive skin I would go in for a skin patch test first. Also, you are lying down with pads on your eyes for up to an hour so be prepared!
Eyelash perming - Advantages: lashes stay dark and curled for up to 3months, No need for harmfull eyelash curlers which used over a pro longed amount of time will eventually damage and deteriorate the natural lashes, transforms painlessly even the shortest of lashes,Making them appear incredibly longer and thicker. - Disadvantages: incorrect rod may be used therefore the curl you may of desired may not of been achieved and so a thicker or smaller rod may be necessary to use.
To all those thinking of having their eyelashes permed DONT!!! I had my eyelashes permed 3 weeks ago and i am still waking up in the mornings to find patches of my eyelashes have fallen out. I am unable to wear mascara as my eyelashes are so dry and broken off and all lashes are pointing in different directions. I have been told it could take 6 months to regrow and for them to be back to normal. When i tried to contact the company responsible they asked me what my problem was, as if my eyelashes are falling out i wouldnt have any left to look bad! Nice huh? If anyone else has had similar experience i would really like to hear from you.
I know you don't believe me when I say it is now possible to have your eyelashes permed but it really is. As a firm believer in eyelash tinting (been having it done now for the past 6 years) I though I would treat myself to an eyelash perm and I'm glad I did as I can now ditch the eyelash curler thingy as well as my mascara. Now pay attention this is the science part... The beautician basically has to place a mini-roller along your upper lashes, curl your lashes round the roller and glue them into place, then apply a mild perming solution to your lashes and then leave the perm to take effect. After leaving the perming solution on for about 20 minutes, the glue and perming solution is gently removed and low and behold you have perfectly curled lashes! And you eyes look wider and your lashes look lovely and long. You also get a little bit of conditioner brushed onto your lashes to help keep them looking lovely and soft. The most time consumming part of this is the curling and glueing of the lashed round the roller, as each lash has to be seperated and unkinked so it can be curled round the roller properly. The beautician also has to make sure that no lower eyelashes are curled round the roller before placing a couple of cotton pads over your eyes and leaving you to develop. It took about 30 mins to seperate my lashes last night when I had the permed. You get a choice of roller size so you can go for either a really tight curl or just a gentle curl. You can also have all the lash permed or just the roots ( I have just the roots done otherwise my lashes are too curled and then disappear into my eyesockets when I open my eyes! ) Things that will make you want to get your eyelashes permed.... Your eyes really do look wider and your lashes longer - honest. You can do away with having to curl your lashes in the morning in a vain attempt to look half awake - just think of those extra couple of mins you can spend in bed. All you now have to do is comb your lashes through in a morning and you are ready to go. Ruby and Millie do a really good Folding brow and lash comb. Things to bear in mind.... you might not get the exact effect you want first time, and it might take a couple of different rollers before you find the curl you are happy with. if you are having it done for a special occasion then have it done a couple of days before hand as with any perm it will be quite tight first of all but it will drop. re-growth - the perm should last for about 2 months but there will be a short period where you have a mixture of old permed lashes and new straighish one ! I have never found this a problem though. things that might put you off.... the smell of perming solution ..it is a really mild solution but it still smells. if you are unable to sit still with your eyes closed for any length of time then this is not for you. If you are a firm believer of eyelash tinting then what the hell treat yourself to a perm....and if you don't like it it will only take 8 weeks to grow out.
