As a Chelsea fan I was fortunate enough to get a ticket to the community (Charity) shield yesterday as Chelsea beat Manchester United on penalties in the curtain raiser for the new football season. Most people regard the Community shield as a slightly over glamorous friendly game but it also provides the winning team with a trophy and a psychological boost before the league season starts proper. I was appalled when I saw JOHN ARNE RIISE emulated Rivaldo's disgraceful play acting in today’s Community Shield. Ok, so it wasn't as bad as Rivaldo's but i don't understand why these stars can do this knowing there are millions of people who look up to them. It is no exaggeration. Riise without doubt fell to the ground on purpose and got up as soon as the referee didn’t award a free kick. Rivaldo’s in the World Cup needs no explanation, as that was just pure stupidity. However it’s not just the playacting that annoys me. It’s the ATTACKS ON STUDENTS (Bowyer and Woodgate), BEATING OF SECURITY GUARDS (John ... Read the complete review

The annual curtain raiser of the English League is the Charity Shield. Winners of the previous year's Premiership play the winners of the previous year's FA Cup. If the winners of the Premiership have also won the FA Cup, then the runners-up in the FA Cup will play. Manchester United, the League winners, and Liverpool, who had been victorious in their FA Cup quest, participated this year’s event in. The Charity Shield normally takes place in Wembley, but as it is being demolished, this year’s event took place in the Millennium Stadium, in Cardiff. The match was played last Sunday. The match was played at a frantic pace, and although it was the ... Read the complete review
