Advantages: NONE WHATSOEVER
Disadvantages: It's bloody awful!
Well well well, that time is nearly upon us yet again. A spectacular curtain Raiser to another exciting premiership season. Last seasons two biggest trophy winners will battle it out for the honour of winning the... absouloutly pointless, piece of cack called the charity shield! I'm sorry but not only does it look like something you see displayed in a school trophy cabinet but it is the single most pointless trophy ever to be contested. It even makes the inter-two-bob and the worthless look like grandiose leviathans in the world of football competition. O.K this year it's being contested by two big rivals, but do you really think that if Liverpool win the charity shield that Man U fans and players alike are going to be deeply devestated at not winning something that amounts to no more than a dust harbourer! To be perfectly honest i'd rather spend a summer watching the cricket than even bother to settle down in front of the T.V to watch this event! (and i use the term event very loosely indeed!!) It's about time that the charity shield was laid to rest somewhere and the curtain raiser to a new season was contested between England and Scotland, at least everyone would have something to get a little excited about. R.I.P the cackity shield!

- 28/07/01 It's the word 'charity' that is important. England v Scotland would be wrong timing at the beginning of a season. The shield is not important as a match, but so what. Kay |

- 20/07/01 it may not hold any interest for the neutral, but it certainly does to the fans of the teams involveed. i can't say i agree that a big game in a great stadium against the scousers is just another pre-season fixture.

- 17/07/01 I have to agree, much as I like footabll, the charity shield holds absolutely no interest to me whatsoever and I usually even forget its on. Perhaps if they changed it to a champions of England against champions of Scotland event it may be more interesting...otherwise its just like another two teams playing out a pres-season friendly match with a piece of silverware at the end of it... |
