Advantages: Gilberto Silva, Cygan, Carini
Disadvantages: We are too good
I was appalled when I saw JOHN ARNE RIISE emulated Rivaldo's disgraceful play acting in today’s Community Shield. Ok, so it wasn't as bad as Rivaldo's but i don't understand why these stars can do this knowing there are millions of people who look up to them. It is no exaggeration. Riise without doubt fell to the ground on purpose and got up as soon as the referee didn’t award a free kick. Rivaldo’s in the World Cup needs no explanation, as that was just pure stupidity. However it’s not just the playacting that annoys me. It’s the ATTACKS ON STUDENTS (Bowyer and Woodgate), BEATING OF SECURITY GUARDS (John Terry) and DRUGS AND ALCOHOL (various). These people have got something everybody dreams of and they throw it all away. Yes they are humans and make mistakes, and yes you can’t always think of the fans but for the love of god, have a bit more sense. Anyway, soon as this is the Community Shield section, I might as well give my opinion on it. YES, YES, YES – we woooonnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!! – I know it’s only a friendly but what made it even sweeter was the fact that it was against Liverpool. They love winning low profile competitions (no offence, but this in the view of a Champions League Club Supporter). I mean they take the Community Shield, Worthington Cup, European Super Cup and Amsterdam Tournament so seriously. Community Shield should be a run about for the lads, new faces etc. Worthington Cup should be for those mid-table sides (no offence) European Super Cup never, ever has a full crowd. Amsterdam Tournament is for Ajax because they’ve lost it in Europe. It was all Arsenal today, all Arsenal. Liverpool were outplayed in the first half and the final quarter of the game. They had hardly any openings. I thought it would be a repeat of 2001 when Silva scored, but we’ve grown in character. There is a tremendous team spir
it and togetherness. Well Done Gilberto, now you Cygan.

- 14/08/02 On the day, the better team won - congratulations. As for making a big deal about meaningless trophies, I wouldn't call the FA Cup or UEFA meaningless. Liverpool competed in the SuperCup as UEFA Champions and last years Charity Shield as FA Cup Champions - nice to win them - what are we supposed to do - not turn up?
We didn't play in the Amsterdam tournament - Man U did - we were down in Madrid. Get your facts straight.
And before having a go at our players you might want to take a look at your own disciplinary record. |

- 12/08/02 not a classic game, and both sides looked out of touch. arsenal will have to show that they can cope without the goals pires and lunjunberg given them from midfield |
