The compliment to Mothers Day with the obvious difference of being for daddy. It is celebrated on many different dates around the globe but most are in the month of June. Sonora Louise Smart Dodd is said to be the "founder" of fathers' Day. She was very close with her father and felt that if there was a day for mother then there should be a day for father. She tried for many years and struggled to have it added to the calendar. It took many years to become permanent on the calendar.

At first the date was used to show gratitude towards fathers only however over the years this has opened up to Step-fathers, god-fathers, grandfathers, father on-law, uncle ...

Across the United Kingdom there are many parties and family activities to enjoy but for us it will most likely be breakfast in bed, hand-made cards and the present. In past years the Fathers' Day presents have been a bit un-special. Last year things picked up a bit in the cool gift giving department as I was pregnant so my eldest son blind-folded my other half and we took him to see a private scan of our soon to be 2nd little boy. It was extra nice because he hadn't been able to go to the NHS scans and we didn't yet know the gender.

This year I am on the ball again! I'm ever so pleased with myself. A few months back my other half had his car broken into and the one and only thing stolen was his Leatherman. I went online and ordered a middle of the range one. A Leatherman Kick for anyone who knows anything about them and according to one of our mates it's nicer then his old one. I bought the case as well so it looks lovely!

The only down side to Fathers' Day for me was when I was little and my mum was responsible for organising my making a card and getting a little something for my dad. My mother and father divorced when I was 3 and I have never fully known the story of why she has such a hatred for him. Whatever the reason it did make sorting out Fathers' Day a bit stressful.
