Advantages: Books are wonderful and writing this has been fun

Disadvantages: So self indulgent (but whats wrong with that now and again?)

I've copied and pasted these questions from another member:
***And GentleGenius has copied/pasted them again!***

*****And now Dougalboo has nabbed them to, but I wanted a go aswell... sorry**********

Question: What is your favourite genre?

Such a hard one and to be honest, dependent on my mood, sometimes I love nothing more than a bit of chick lit, other times I feel the need to re read all the classics.

Question: Do you read the classics, i.e., the great authors of the 18th and 19th century?

Yes!!! Regularly, I try to read all the Hardy's and Austen's at least once a year.

Question: Are you interested in thrillers?

Probably one of the few genres I am not that interested in (though did go through a phase of reading Stephen King a few years back, if that counts!)

Q: What about horror stories?

Or maybe this is a bit more Stephen king? I like more phsychological stuff... that chills you by making your mind work overtime rather than give explixit detail.

Q: Do you read Science Fiction?

I wish I could like it more ... tried and failed!

Q: How many Harry Potter books have you read?

All and I love them... I know a lot of literature snobs may think badly of me... but they are an addictive easy read .... and you can't knock JK for what she did to all those reluctant readers at the time!

Q: Have you ever read and enjoyed biographies or autobiographies?

Yes and some great ones too ... love them as long as they are honest, true and not too self indulgent

Q: Do you remember any of the books you read and loved as a child?

Yes .. I was your typical bookworm and all the books I loved are now sitting happily on the bookshelf of my eldest... the new bookworm!! One particular favourite was the Teddy Robinson stories by Joan G Robinson (anyone else remember those?). Funnily as a child i didn't get on with Enid Blyton ... now I absoloutley adore them and have read and re read so many to my girls!!

Q: Have you reread these books as a grown-up?

Yes... to my daughters... I read to them for at least 30 mins at bedtime every night (multiply that by nearly 7 years!), so we get through tons!!

Q: Is there a book of which you can say it has influenced you?

Different books at different times in my life had made a massive impact, but I think to say any have influenced me may be taking it too far .... saying that, as a trainee teacher i read a book called 'Dibs in search of self' and I would say that influemced me in as much as it made me want to go into child psychology an special educational needs

Q: Which are your favourite authors?

At this point i would have to give a massive list... but to name a few off the top of my head, Shakespeare, austen, Hardy, Plath, Hughes, Larkin, Albom .....

Q: Which book would you take with you on a desert island?

Can I only take one? Probably the complete works of Shakespeare

Q: What is your attitude towards translations?

Would love to be able to read in the original language!

Q: Do you buy your books/get them from the library/borrow them from friends/steal them?

I borrow a lot from the library, purely because I have run out of room in my house and we could effectively become a lbrary... but i love to buy, give and receive books and all my favourites have to be owned!

Q: When you buy books, do you prefer hardcover editions or pocket books?

Depends on the book... classics I like big, harbacked beautiful versions... for a quick read I am happy with a paperback.

Q: Have you ever tried Audio Books?

Yes! And they are a god send for when my daughters wake up in the middle of the night and need lulling back to sleep... Enid Blyton on CD is great! For myself though, i like to read myself and I give specific characters voices ... its a bit like a film where they cast the wrong looking person for a role because you picture the character differently... i am the same with voices!

Summary: Thanks original question writer... this has made me think!
