Advantages: My suggested measures are sensible and rudimentarily good.
Disadvantages: This is probably my last stand.....
I’m a disgruntled writer. However, I am just one of may others who too feel mistreated, cheated and generally feel as though they’re not needed (by the system, that is). How much more attention can I bring to myself? Aren’t my opinions good enough’. Although it that was true, my fragile little ego probably couldn’t handle it and I’d probably stop there and then, cry a few tears and wonder what else could get me noticed (I’d think I’d draw the line at paragliding into Buckingham Palace though....). It may feel like a wooden spoon....but at least I get a wooden spoon! In this ‘dooyoo’ world, the opinions are divided into the haves and have nots....those that HAVE crowns and those that HAVE NOT. It’s a gross misrepresentation of many of the opinions that I’ve read and there are plenty of opinions out there that are good BUT not great. I feel that ‘dooyoo’ regards many of my opinions that way (hopefully, for the sake of my sanity, they don’t think I’m a hack!? Do they!? Although in a previous life, I did work for a newspaper....). It is for this purpose, I recommend an award that has no monetary value but should still get readers reading....it is the ‘HIGHLY RECOMMENDED’ award and perhaps a silver star should signify it as opposed to a silver crown (I’m slightly colour blind, you know....and it would give me false hopes). It’s a very, very sensible idea and should encourage many fly-by-night readers’ curiosity....and to stop just votinf for their friends AND encourage more critical voting. I have seen the effect of crowns and on the whole it’s positive BUT the cream doesn’t always rise to the top! Using two examples of what I believe to be extreme injustice where the subject has a high number of posts BOTH the ‘Freeserve’ thread and the ‘The wors
t job in England?' thread suffer from some kind of mysterious bias. Not all of us can be popular, granted BUT I’m sceptical as to how opinions that have got crowns were NOT placed higher up in terms of usefulness! I can always blame cheats and peoples’ ability to NETWORK efficiently but two unfortunate people who caught my eye were ‘stereoman and ‘logiluke’. In stereoman’s case, he has recently got a crown but is superseded by several others who have written their opinions even later than he has! But it’s a very popular thread BUT still I wonder.....at the present time he is placed 14th. Even more, less or even as wretched is ‘logiluke', whose opinion of ‘The worst job in England’ is slightly shocking. Granted he did write his opinion a while ago but is placed in 10th place. Poetic justice for either? I don’t think so. The luck of the draw? Some members being more equal than others? I’ll leave that up to you..... There should be no other awards though....who needs an award telling members that an opinion is mediocre (mine’s different.....mine is good BUT not great....there is a difference)? However, if a third award is to be made (I’m optimistic, aren’t I!?) then THIS is probably the most controversial one and will have many members reeling if it ever gets installed. It is the true wooden spoon! It is for the worst of the worst! It is a chance for ‘dooyoo’ to take a stand....to strike back....financially and judgementally. There are opinions that stink However I think there are members who fear for their reputation and just ignore them. They should be doing their part and help condemn those that do deserve to be panned (I believe ‘dooyoo’ feels that this might be a step too far....I believe standards have to be kept and adhered too and that they HAVE fallen) and it is the job of ‘dooyoo’ t
o make sure members help maintain the high standard of ‘dooyoo’ as a reference site....however, I can't help but feel that some members of ‘dooyoo’ aren’t doing anything much apart from helping themselves. ABOVE all though, we want dignity and sensibility. I’ve been called crap BUT can take it on the chin BUT they’ve been from people who have felt fit only to post one opinion and then scarper leaving me as to who the mystery culprit is.....have you never suffered from this kind of retribution?). However, as I suggest it is to be at the discretion of ‘dooyoo’, I trust their impartiality and the judging abilities of their staff. The financial penalty for writing a duff opinion? 50p. Not more, not less. Any more AND it would be a scandal. Any less and it just becomes a hazard people are willing to take. I WANT to know what the true feelings of ‘dooyoo’ are in regards to my opinions.....my status as a member.....my ideas. Too long, have I been left floundering in the dark as to why I and my opinions may or may not deserve the attention they’re getting, if any attention at all. I, sometimes wonder if the checking is done by machine by the relative emotionlessness of the response from ‘dooyoo’. I feel like Craig David recently did during the Brit Awards....recognised, snubbed and wondering why they ignored me. Please respond ‘dooyoo’....anyone at all....

- 10/03/01 I'll have time to reply to each message posted since my last one in this opinion's comments section (nice to see such a positive response....have been left 'tortured' by various 'snubs' though).
I would like to offer a bit of a formal apology and know, that as busy as 'dooyoo' is, I was not justified in demanding the information I had requested at such short notice. Thanks to Amit, my faith in 'dooyoo' is restored once more and perhaps I was just being a little ungrateful ('little' being the operative word here). |

- 05/03/01 Some interesting points raised, and as I have loads of ideas, I'll not really comment until I write my own opinion. Suffice to say that there are loads of factors the determine the number of reads an opinion gets. |

- 04/03/01 It has to be said that you do have to read around a lot in the beginning to get noticed. Just persevere with it and you will get rewarded with better reads with quality opinions. I think most members (I certainly did!) went through this phase in the beginning. |
