Advantages: Allows your opinion to be read., Can be fun., Community spirit.

Disadvantages: Too much moaning.

Despite joining dooyoo last year I only started to write opinions recently. I have, since then seen many different opinions on how the site could/should change.

It has been claimed that the crown system is unfair, that there are a select few that could write anything and get a crown while others, who spend a lot of time, and write in-depth opinions get passed over. I have heard some say the guides are to blame while others claim the whole system needs changing, even suggesting different levels of reward.

I am not at all convinced that there are is a select few, if that is the case I managed to become one of them very quickly, and without any knowledge, because I have been awarded several crowns for my opinions. I feel the crowns I have are because the subject of those opinions was something I do have a lot of personal knowledge about, things I live with or deal with daily. This, I feel, makes those opinions informative, well researched and contain sound advice. I certainly do not feel they were awarded because I have joined some elite group of people, who are able to ensure crowns get awarded. I have read many opinions that I felt were worthy of crowns, and nominated them, but they didn’t get a crown. When I looked deeper into the subject I could see that other members had written about the same subject before, and their opinion contained much the same, and had been crowned. Maybe we all need to look harder at the opinions already written in subject areas and make our different; it is fair that not every opinion on a subject will get crowned. It would also help if everyone that felt an opinion deserved a crown was to press the nomination button too. I understood, from the start, that a crown would be awarded, by the site administrators, for opinions that were better than average, or ones that contained more information, I still feel this is the case. The crowns, in my opinion, show two things, firstly, that the member has written a good opin
ion, full of facts, advice and back up evidence. Secondly it shows people visiting the site, looking to find out about certain products or services, which is, after all what the site is about, which opinions may be worth reading first.

It is clear that some members are driven by the cash rewards offered, and to those few the crowns mean extra cash. While, to many others, it is a sense of being a part of a community, a chance to have your view/opinion posted on the web site, and any cash award to these members is secondary but nice none the less. Of course there are also some members that simply do not like some peoples style of writing, or the way they present their opinion. They then down grade the rate for that opinion, I feel this happens far too often but it is everyone’s right to rate each opinion as they feel fit, even if that is not always fair. On top of this you will have certain members that are simply getting their own back because one of their own opinions got rated lower than they felt was fair, this is petty but who is to say it is wrong?

One big problem on the site is the way some always complain about spellings, punctuation, grammar and the like. While this is importantly it is not so important as the content of the opinion, none of us have the right to slate folk simply because their spelling is bad. None of us is perfect and the site is not here only for English graduates. There are others that will refuse to rate, or rate low simply because the opinion is in the “wrong place”. We all know that it is very easy to place an opinion in areas that may not be the best for the subject chosen. This can be put right quite easily and all we need to do is offer advice, not offer a bottom rate, or no rate, simply for the error. If the opinion is good, or very useful, then rate it as such, offer advice as to how, and where it might best be and leave it at that. Many new members will be put off staying on the site if they com
e across some of the more pedantic members during their first few opinions. It is in everyone’s interest to have as many members as possible on the site, the more members there are the more reads we all stand to get.

Everyone using the site is aware of the way the miles are awarded, how the crowns are decided and what is needed to stand a chance of getting a crown, and the 1500 extra miles. We all decide, despite the rules, to continue to write, so it would help if everyone stopped moaning and started enjoying the site.

Another factor, in the debates about the way dooyoo works, is by constantly comparing it to other, similar sites. This is of no use to anyone and, if the member feels the other sites are better then why stay here and moan? This site is dooyoo and it has its own ways of working, its own reward system which I believe it is fair. Nobody is going to get rich by writing opinions on this site, most knew that when they joined, but it is fun. I find that writing opinions is a challenge, reading others fun and being able to offer comments both helpful and also fun. The banter that goes on between members, in the comments section offers many of us a good laugh and adds to the enjoyment of the site.

Yes there are possibly some changes that would make life better, yes there maybe fairer ways to reward and yes we should send any views we have in this direction to the administration guys. We should also start to enjoy the site more, help each other along and encourage new members to write and read often. If you don’t like an opinion then rate it as you wish but leave it at that, there is no need, or benefit to be gained by going on to insult the member in the comments area. Constructive advice is good but rudeness is simply destructive. There are always going to be times when people disagree on subjects, that is life. There will be times when we feel an opinion is political but all we need to do then is ignore it. Everyone is
entitled to an opinion and nobody has the right to say they have not.

I feel this site is working well as it is I feel everyone could enjoy using it and I also believe many members have left because they have been insulted. It would pay everyone to remember, every read offers us the same amount of miles, and the more members there are the more reads we stand to get, that means more miles and, for those interested, more money too.

I have found that the vast majority of the members I have come across are polite, helpful and fun people but I have also seen some of the less than friendly ones too. All I ask, of anyone reading any of my opinions, is for a constructive comment, a fair rate and not a lesson in English. I would also like to think that anyone that does have a problem, either with the way the site works or the way a member writes, they will contact the site administrator. When you think about it, anyone telling someone else their opinion is in the wrong place, or by calling it “crap”, in the comments section is also adding their point in the wrong area themselves!!!

I guess I should end by saying what I feel, and that is simple… If you do not like dooyoo, or the way it works, pays or awards the crowns then leave. There are other sites of a similar nature try one of them. If you don’t want to leave then enjoy the site. Life is far too short to see so much argument about such petty things as who should, or should not, get a crown, or why… A crown is awarded by someone that feels that opinion stands out from the rest, for whatever reason. It is not the fault of any one member, nor is it down to the guides. If you have a problem press the contact button and tell them.
