For most of us, our final year project is the best part of our degree course, it means no lectures, occassional tutorials and a 48 hour write up one two days before the due in date.

What a break we say, 'but' in reality what produces a good project?

Firstly, you, the student can decide what you would like to research, staying within the realms of your subject area of course. Some points to keep in mind when deciding: Keep your topic narrow. The narrower the topic the better project you will produce, a broad topic makes it difficult for you to concentrate enough on each part of the topic, and this looses marks. For example, if you want to study; how the mdia influences young people, choose a section of the media to concentrate on like film, or the press or television, choose one of these rather than all of them.

Select your method of research carfully weighing the advantages and diadvantages.

Next bit of advice is that your method of study will detemine how objective you have to be, however subjectivty in the writing makes it more interesting to read. This is an important point to remember, don't start writing totally about your personal experiences, but writing about something that you can relate to or have or have had experience of produces better writng. And this in turn could get you a better grade.

Some general points, remember the contents page, bibliography, references and concentrate on the presentation, if something looks neat and good, it is psychological, it usually gets better marks.

My partner has just completed his project after months or hard work - mind you he has got an A14 for it. Susan
