GET OUT OF DEBT SLOWLY…

Since I was 14 I have been in debt,I recall it well as I had a part-time job at the time and I was wanting to buy a record player from the next door neighbours club book and since that record player arrived I have always owed money right up until now.

So 4 years ago I got a real scare,I had worked in a job for 14 years and had learnt that the Company was going to go bust and I was going to be made unemployed for the first time in 20 years.I panicked and was so scared of being out of work and having no money I didn’t pay any off the people I owed money to resulting in me being taking to Court and getting 2 CCJs and because off that I now cant get credit for 6 years.

Most of that old debt has now been cleared but like everyone else and tempted by a week in the sun I booked a holiday on my credit card, and with interest at 1.65% a month I shall have my loyal friend Mr Debt around for another year.

So why do we get ourselves in debt,is it because its so easy to get or because no one waits until they can afford a thing anymore.I thought I owed a lot off money until I talked to people I work with, one guy owed £6000 on his credit cards for holidays going back 2 years and is paying almost a hundred pounds in interest a month.Another buys his Christmas presents with a yearly bank loan and spends the rest of the year paying it off,one vicious circle…

Anyway my advice and what I intend doing myself is draw up a 2 year plan, pay it slowly, the debt you owe may look bad but after 12 months and more it does come down just don’t be tempted to use your credit card for a £10 of petrol here or a £15 for drink there because it does mount up and by the time you through in the interest your payment has been swallowed up..

It can make you feel so bad and so full off despair that it just eats you up,it has broken up marriages and drove people to suicide but I can tell you from my own ex
perience that I have got to the point now were I have just said “stuff it,its only money”,and it is.Don’t let it ruin your life, seek advice or when you have finished reading this go to the bottom of the page, you will see”other opinions”,click on it and you will see a list of opinions on Debt, much more helpful than this one..Read them it will help you,it helped me.

I have just given my personal view on Debt,it is a subject that can ruin your life if you let it,anyway if like myself you are in debt don’t let it get you down, pay it off slow and take care…..

Thank you all for taking the time to read this,on this topic I would value any comments you care to leave..

Art….

Great review. I think everyone gets into debt at some point of their life. I'm there now but with the help of a credit counselling service I'm on my way out.

Greetings! Great op I thought! I agree with the 'stuff it' theory but I guess you have to balance that against, 'I have to be a bit sensible sometimes' one!! Kazzie!

good advice Art, its too easy to get deep in debt these days.I generally prefer to save up for things, but we do use credit cards for some things and try and pay them off as quickly as possible.
