Advantages: Good value, Long term investment
Disadvantages: You could lose, Predictable winners
The only real value on premiership betting these days is either a four league Yankee with Man United the openers. Or the excellent handicap betting available at your big street shops.I haven’t checked to see if dooyoos own on site bookies have dabbled in this standard yet and will check out their prices later. The handicap system is value because firstly you can get United to win at 15-1! . It works on a simple calculation where your selection is awarded a handicap according to their chances of winning the league. Manchester United are scratch, i.e. par. Then the rest of the teams are awarded extra points to add to their final tally after the last match of the season. Last seasons winners were Ipswich Town, who had +45 as their handicap, which was added to their final score of 67 points. No one came near due to their excellent unexpected performance. Therefore the skill is picking a team that you think will do well before the big kick off. Only One hundred and twelve people in the country (presumably Tractor boy fans) bet on this outcome. Even a one pound bet pays sixteen whilst you watch your selection do well through the season. I have personally gone for Liecester City who have a juicy +37 with William Hill. All anti post bets are tax free now and with Peter Taylor at the helm free from England duties I can see serious value. The team did have a bad run in due to the excellent mangers ambiguous season and loyalties. Charlton at +33 are also surprising value as they had a better than average season last year. With two fluid strikers in Johansson and Bartlett should at least equal last years effort. These bets are ideal for a nibble, especially at a fiver each way the pays out first four places. Providing that all the other teams don’t better you with their handicaps of course. Ladbrokes anti post coupon offers some great odds for top scorer in the Premier. The predictable ones in untried Van Nistelroy
and Hasslebaink are poor value.6-1 wont have the punters running as an injury and champions league commitments early on can curtail ones chances. Paulo Dicannio is an incredible 100-1 to finish top, or joint top scorer. Paulo though cried of 15 games away from Upton Park in the last two years out of 18 missed matches. Marian Pahars is also at a ton to one and if he plays he could easily slip into rampant scoring like he hinted at in his first year in England two years back. You get quarter odds on these guys if they finish in the top four scorers come May.Now that is serious value for a pound each way stake minimum. Other ones worth a look are Rebrov at the new Tottenham dynasty under Hoddle at 50-1.Or Carl Court who was efficient around the net at Wimbledon at his new club at Everton. His price of 50-1 is the same price as Alan Boksich who looked the class off the lower reaches last year at Middlesbrough. My personal selections are Charltons prolific Kevin Bartlett from South Africa who scored fithteen goals from November on when he signed for the passing side club. He has the equally predatory Johansson along side him with a sexy midfield to. My second choice would have to be Chelsea’s brilliant young Eider Gudjohnson who scored freely as he earnt his place towards the end of last season. At 66-1 and Zolas on the bench, him and Hasslebaink should wreck havoc against the lazy defenses. The brilliant Zendan will be pinging balls in from all angles so expect a much better year for him and Chelsea. As the value is so good I will pick a guy nearer the favorite end. Sylvan Wiltord looked very useful at the later part of the season and will expect to start lots of games. The better-established forwards could be tied up with the champions league so he should play tons.28-1 is not the best price though. If you’re interested on a multiple bet for each league im not the guy to ask. Im going to go with Man U
nited for the prem (obviously). Birmingham City +8 to finally drag themselves out of the nearly boys league one. Second division is real tough and im guessing at Stoke City at +3. Division Three is screaming for Hull City, as are all the bookies. So why not. These are great fun bets and you lose or win your money over eight months, rather than 8 minutes at Catterick.

- 10/08/01 Leeds finished the best of all the teams after xmass last season, only when we got our squad together (injuries to batty, kewell, bridges) did we turn it on. Hudds will do good, booth and clive wynard upfront both ex-prem players who can do it at the top level. Booth to be top scorer in the division. He got 4 in 4 for threm back end of last season in 1st when they had poor team. Bristol coz mullet head went back from QPR, although hull have splashed the dosh about i agree. |

- 10/08/01 I'd really like to see Birmingam finally make the Premiership, but I just don't think they have the bottle. I hope they prove me wrong! Great op, a good read that. Cheers, and many thanks for the tips! ;-) |
