Formula 3000 has long been known as the last stepping stone towards Formula One. However in the last 3 years it seems as though this Formula is the missing link today. The F3000 championship series is run mainly at the European Grand Prix events (except Brazil), the races are run over a period in the region of 50 laps with no set pitstops, as required in F1. The cars are identical with exactly the same power unit and tyres being used by every team and driver. There is a cut off point for where you have to qualify, and this is 22nd position ? if you?re slower than this you do not qualify for the race. Formula 3000 is to all intents and purposes the baby brother to the king that is Formula One. It is one of a number of similar formulae, including F3 and numerous versions of F3000 specific to a certain country. What makes Formula 3000 all the more important is that it follows the Formula One circuit throughout Europe. The series is run yearly and consists of about 12 races, taking place on the whole in Europe. This year they branched out and had one race in Brazil, but otherwise the cars can be found on the top European tracks such as the Nurburgring, Hockenheim and our very own Silverstone.
