Advantages: there are no advantages

Disadvantages: it's cruel

I am against fox hunting and no amount of "good reasons" for fox hunting will ever change my mind. Regardless of what arguments people put forward none of them change a few simple facts:
1. There is something wrong with anyone who enjoys watching any living thing being torn apart
2. It's an ineffective way to control the fox population
Everything else is just my opinion. It is my opinion that fox hunting is immoral. It is my opinion that humans should not have the right to kill animals for sport. My opinion isn't worth anything more than anyone elses opinion but the two things I listed above are what I consider to be facts.

There is a link between animal abuse and domestic violence, which means that there's a link between animal abuse and child abuse because domestic violence increases the likelihood of child abuse. This has been disputed recently in the press but from what I've read it seems that most of them didn't have a clue what they were talking about.
I'm not going to bore everyone with the details of this but if you're interested (or don't believe me) I would suggest reading Simon Hackett and Emma Uprichard's study on the link between abusing animals and behavioural problems.
So, anyway chances are if someone is willing to hurt an animal they are more likely than most people to hurt a human. I don't just think that fox hunting isn't a sport, I think that it's extremely worrying behaviour.
To kill an animal for survival, to eat for example is one thing. To gain any kind of pleasure from killing an animal is another thing entirely. To call fox hunting a sport and to take part in that sport means that you consider it an enjoyable way to spend your time. It's not a case of killing the fox to stop it from killing your chickens, you're killing it because you enjoy it. How anyone can think that there's nothing wrong with this is beyond me.

My second point, it's not effective. If you want to control the fox population then use a means of killing that kills large numbers of foxes and guarantees a kill.
Hunting with hounds is an extremely inhumane way of killing foxes. Take a gun and shoot them, it's over quickly. I'm not saying it's necessarily ethical but it's not unecessarily cruel either. Send a dog to chase the fox for your amusement that's not only cruel but it doesn't kill many foxes.

I don't know if fox hunting can be called a sport but in my opinion whether or not it's a sport is not the point. The point is that it's cruel and there are no good reasons for it, other than to amuse a few sick people.

Summary: A cruel activity.
