Disadvantages: a lot of uneducated people who think they know it all, suffering, pain, torture,
First I'd like to say I'd give Fox hunting 0 stars if I could.
Is this sport? if sport now means chasing a tiny animal for hours until it is almost dying of exhaustion and then ordering dogs to rip it to shreds....What kind of person would do that?a coward is the simple answer.
I have read all the reviews on here about fox hunting as it is something I am strongly against, the excuses people give for fox hunting are laughable and obviously written by people who would rather believe ignorance is bliss:
#1. "Fox hunting is needed to control the population of foxes"
The fox population of the UK is stable at around 250,000. (Compare this to the 44,000,000 sheep, 11,000,000 cattle and 60,000,000 humans who inhabit these isles.)
So thats too many foxes then??
Just an excuse made by toffs to make them feel better.
And no they don't need culling another way either so do not write that comment on my review.
#2. "Foxes kill for the fun of it"
People have heard cases where foxes have killed chickens, just leaving their bodies. So therefore they presume it 'was for fun'. The fact is if a fox gets into a chicken pen (a rarity in itself) and tries to cath a chicken, the chickens will start to make noise and flap around, this scares the fox and it will kill in a panic and get out as fast as it can.
And yes I like chickens too and feel sorry for them but i'm pretty sure humans kill thousands more chickens a day for their own consumption and we don't need to eat chickens!
Foxes are very timid animals, neither sly nor cunning as some people will believe. Most people also like to paint a picture in their head of a much bigger animal than a fox actually is, they are so little and usually very thin!
A foxes diet consists 90% of the time of earthworms, beetles and wild berries. FACT.
This is not my biased view because I think foxes are 'cute' I couldnt care less how they look, they are defenceless animals who do none of the things they are accused of and the people who think chasing and killing them is fun are disgusting excuses for human beings.
Some of you may know a fox visits me every so often, he has been coming to the grass outside my apartment building for a year now and I occasionally feed him but he isn't too bothered for the food and I don't want him relying on it anyway. If I throw it to him, he sometimes brings it back like a dog would with a ball so he mostly wants to play bless him!
We have huge communal bins and sometimes they are so full the lids are wedged open and not once has the fox (who now brings a friend too) rooted through the rubbish as some people say foxes do.
Another fact proven is that the house behind my apartment block has chickens in a pen and I have spoken to the lady there and she has seen the fox looking at the chickens, mesmerised by them but it runs away when they make a noise!
I am trying my best to scare the fox away when it comes into the car park or too close to other people as I know some people are very uneducated when it somes to wild animals but he seems to know i'm not going to hurt him, I have to go up the grass bank so he follows.
I'm pretty sure the people who live in the building think i'm a loony, i'm often out on the grass in my pyjamas, boots and coat at midnight with peanut butter sandwiches.....
Just as an end note, my beliefs are not limited to foxes; i'll stick up for any animal (as mentioned in thedevilinmes review, i'm that 'girl that would make friends with any living thing') they can't stand up for themselves against the bullies that are humans so i'll do it for them the best I can.
Most of the things I read about fox hunting infuriate me as there are no facts, just things people would rather believe than the horrible truth.
But i'm sorry in this case, ignorance is not bliss.
Thankyou for reading, Leanne x
Summary: Ashamed to call myself a human sometimes

- 25/02/09 Hmmm, leeman-seed, I doubt you will ever read this comment but you are so far wide of the mark I had to say something. The hunt is a valuable commodity for farmers since the EU banned the burial of fallen stock. Most people who hunt are farmers, not "toffs", following a football club is more expensive than hunting but I don't expect you call the Chelsea headhunters "toffs" do you? In fact, I don't even expect you know what fallen stock is. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is a great review, opinions should at least be educated ones though. |
