Advantages: Revenge for farmers, tradition, people's rights.

Disadvantages: possibly inhumane, methods of catching foxes.

From reading the majority of the opinions regarding this subject, the general idea is that fox hunting is the demon of sports......I disagree. How many of the writers have seen the amount of damage that foxes cause to a farmers livestock? Huge amounts of money is being lost because of these animals, and if they want to try anddefend their livelihood, then who are we to say not to. Farmers are sufering at the moment enough without all the animal rights protesters jumping down their throats. I realise that I am sounding really inhumane, but it is not fair that a long standing tradition amongst the rural community should be banned because of city dwellers having a guilty conscience. I do however have my resignations about the ways that fox hunting is carried out, and think that if it was such an even battle more foxes would escape, but this does not sway my opinion that it should not be banned, as it is a small form of revenge that the farmers are entitled to. This is probably not the article that any self respecting animal rights protestor would agree with, but I feel that the argument in speakers corner is slightly one-sided, and anyway everyone should have a voice....even the fox slayers!!

fair point jimblob, but if they like to do it and don't harm anyone else, why should they not be allowed to do it?

Most farmers don't see the fox as much of a pest at all, a good farmer will build a fox proof hen run or keep a keen eye on their lambs when they are born. Foxes also help farmers by keeping the rabbit population down, and rabbits can cause more damage to the farmers profits through eating crops than a fox making off with the odd hen or two.
We are supposed to be a civilised country, without an inherant need to hunt, we buy our meat from the butcher or safeways.
