Foxhunting - is this sport?

Advantages: NONE

Disadvantages: Cruel, not humane.

Living in a City and never having lived in the Country my opinion may seem one-sided.

I am a lover of animals and do not like to see or hear of any animal being treated cruelly or suffering.

Fox hunting is done for sport. Sport is a pleasure so where is the argument FOR fox hunting?

I understand that the fox can be a nuisense for farmers, pestering and killing their chickens.
Surely the simple answer is to improve the chicken housing so the foxes cannot get in!
The fox is only doing something that is natural to him, and that is to find food to feed himself and his family.
And I bet most of these Huntsmen do not even own chickens!

Many foxes wander into the City and are a pleasure to see and watch.
I have never heard of a fox attacking a human and if they have then I am sure it is an isolated incident.

The tearing to shreds of an innocent animal by a bunch of savage hounds is appalling and has to be stopped. If the fox population has to be kept low then shooting it would be more humane.
At times even these hounds run amok, tearing small dogs and cats to pieces while trespassing on someone elses land.
While let loose, these dogs are not controlable.

A good idea might also be for the farmers to leave out food for the foxes or a better idea would be that the Huntsmen nominate one of themselves each week to be chased by the hounds!!!

Carolinesite- You can guarantee an instant, painless death when shooting a horse as the gun is inches from its brain. You can see the difference when you are talking about a small fox that is running- a hard target that will lead to unecessary pain for the animal.

I agree - the hunters should be chased by dogs... maybe then i could see a point of hunting :o)
