Advantages: top scoring world class midfielder, creative, great shot, great passing, good set pieces

Disadvantages: lacks pace but makes up for it with his football brain

Frank James Lampard Junior was born on the 20th of June 1978. He was born to parents Pat and Frank Lampard senior (a footballer who played for West Ham and England). He is known as one of the best midfielders in the game currently and has an impressive goal scoring record for Chelsea which has made him the highest goalscoring midfielder at the club ever. He is known as a box to box midfielder which is a term that refers to midfielders who have abilities in both the attacking and defensive parts of midfield- can tackle well, pass well, shoot and keep possession of the football. He is also an intelligent guy with an A * in GCSE Latin with a reported IQ of over 150.

Lampard began his career at his fathers club where he joined as a youth in 1994. He established himself in the first team at West Ham in the 1997-98 season after a period on loan at Swansea City. He had a few seasons at West Ham before making the move across London to rivals Chelsea for a fee of £11 million pounds in 2001.

His first couple of seasons at Chelsea were not spectacular given the transfer fee Chelsea had paid for him. He did not reach double figures for goals until the 2003/04 season where he scored 14 goals in total. The 2004/05 season where Chelsea claimed both the league title (first for 50 years ) and the League Cup he notched a total of 19 goals. The 2005/06 season saw Lampard finish with 20 goals which helped Chelsea to retain the Premiership title. He was also the runner up in the Ballon d'or and Fifa world player of the year awards finishing second to Ronaldinho. In the 06/07 season he finished with 21 goals in all and helped Chelsea to the Carling cup and Fa Cup. Injury kept Lampard out for large parts of the 07-08 season but Lampard still scored his 100th goal for the club and helped Chelsea to reach the final of the Champions League for the first time in the club's history with a crucial penalty in the semi final against Liverpool in extra time.(coming only a week after the death of his mother due to pneumonia ). He now celebrates his goals by pointing to the sky and looking up as a tribute.

After considering a move away from Chelsea (to Inter Milan in Italy) due to the death of his mother and wanting to get away from London, Lampard decided to sign a new five year contract at Chelsea worth close to £40 million, making him the higest paid player in the premiership. He has had another terrific season so far and has just made over 400 appearances for Chelsea scoring over 120 goals.

I believe Frank is a great player, he wasn't naturally blessed with the gift of already being a great footballer from a very young age and his dad used to make him cry going home from training telling his son he was not good enough. He worked hard at his game on the training pitch, often staying behind after everyone else had left to do extra practice. This has helped him to become one of the top midfielders in the game today.

I have seen him play live a few times and usually he likes scoring when I have seen him recentl!. He scored his first hat trick for Chelsea in an Fa cup 3rd round tie against Maccelsfield. He also scored 2 goals when I saw him in a game against Wycombe Wanderers in a Carling Cup semi final. Both these games were on route to winning the respective competitions that season. Another game that sticks out was a game against Leicester City in the carling cup where Chelsea won 4-3 and Lampard again scored a hat trick. I was also present when Lampard scored his 100th goal for Chelsea in an Fa Cup game in the 07-8 season against Huddersfield. When you watch Lampard play you can see what an intelligent player he is. He is not blessed with pace but he makes intelligent runs in to the box and this is the route of most of his goals. He also has a great shot and is capable of scoring from distance and set pieces. He is the penalty taker at Chelsea and has scored a number of these in his career at Chelsea so far. He is also creative and has also assisted in a number of Chelsea's goals with killer passes.

His form for England is probably not as great as his club form but this can be said of many England players currently. This is probably in part due to the difference in position he plays at club and international level. Given the freedom to roam forward more at club level has allowed him to get in to more goal scoring positions and score more goals from a more advanced role. I still believe Capello can work out something between Gerrard and Lampard to get them to work effectively together which has proved difficult for managers before him.

Frank is a top player, one of the best atacking midfielders in the business currently alongside the likes of Kaka and Gerrard. SUPER FRANK!

Summary: top player!

I really dislike him as a person but I don't think many will deny that he is a great footballer.
