French

There doesn't seem to be many opinions on French A Level, perhaps because hardly anyone chooses it! At my school we have around 100- 150 students in the sixth form. Only 4 (including myself) opted to take French. Strange isn't it? Especially as employers are crying out for workers with a second language! Anyway, I took french GCSE which you have to have taken really; otherwise you won't know the principles or basics which you are expected to. I have 3 different teachers and have 4 hours of french lessons a week. This isn't too bad, but we are meant to spend a lot longer at home, learning vocabulary and tenses. I have been doing french now for 6 years at Swanwick Hall Schoo, including GCSE, which I completed in the summer of 2000. I have since started sixth form at the same school, and decided that I should carry on with French at A level. So far this year I have found the course absolutely brilliant, with my course split equally between two teachers, one teaching vocabulary, and usage, and the other grammar and usage. I am now coming up to the As level exams this summer, and hope to do well. I would recommend this course to tout le monde (everyone), especially at swanwick hall school, who have recently recieved a special award for languages at GCSE.
