I've been a member of Dooyoo for approaching a year now. I fell out of love with the site quite quickly after joining as there seemed to be some unnecessarily spiteful and hateful members whom would leave disparaging remarks or rates and generally be as unencouraging as physically possible. I simply gave up on dooyoo. focused a bit more on Ciao and was happy to put Dooyoo in the tried and failed category of review/cashback sites. Around 5 months had passed and i found myself getting drawn back to Dooyoo, initially to read some product reviews and then got tempted back into publishing my own reviews and on many levels my dooyoo experience is a lot better than previously, i think the quality of my reviews has got better and i would go so far to say that the quality of members and their reviews have got better but I still have frustrations with the site and I am ready to unburden myself with you.
Firstly - The guides... i know i am not going to endear myself with them for writing this, but it seems that with the exception of a couple of genuine diamond guides, the guides in general are a bunch of .....(insert your own word(s) ). Now i cannot stress enough that this is not all guides... a few have been absolute stars to me since joining... reading, rating, encouraging, pointing ways to improve and generally being the supportive guides that they are supposed to be. However, for some failed milk monitors being a guide is the equivilent to being the poet laureate. They are above reading and rating the reviews of the 'plebs'. despite the 'plebs' reading, rating and even nominating their reviews. They will take the time to view your profile to see who has rated and nominated them, but god forbid their busy important schedule allows them to read or rate a review whilst nosing at your profile. Maybe they are too busy accepting the nobel peace prize for their reviews or on some whistle stop tour promoting their latest pulitzer prize winner.... or maybe they are just being arrogantly discourteous....either way they are not acting as guides.....according to how many percieve what a guide should be. I fully appreciate that no one has time to read every single review... not even Mythdata :) but about a month ago i made the decision to deliberately not read the guides reviews who do not return rates... coincidently I have not recieved any crowns since then despite record number of rates and nominations. Im certainly not suggesting that all if any of my reviews deserve crowns but my faith in the Guides has seriously been depleted... but god bless the good guides... the ones that make the effort and do not believe that they are dooyoo's very own Charles Dickens., becuase you make it worthwhile.
Churners - Why does dooyoo allow people to write 10 or more 'reviews' a day? and I use that term in the vaguest of senses a day, spouting sh*te.?? the 150 - 152 word reviews are of no use to anyone or anything and seriously detract from this site....you know the sort... 'i like the bbc, the bbc is good' type review... written by morons who don't even bother to return rates. Raising the word limit to 300 would help and capping the reviews published to say 5 a day might prevent me stumbling accidently on one of the morons piece of sh*t. But with current rules regarding this site it is allowed ,so best I can do is ignore their 'I like Tesco's, Tesco's is good' review.
Revenge and Non-Return raters - I used to get wound up by them.... the 1 out of 133 rates that insists your review is only a useful because you have rated their 151 word 'I like Lush, Lush is good' review as useful (generously too). I don't rate these members reviews anymore or the people that are not courteous enough to return a rate...If someone has taken the time to read and rate a review of yours, time premitting, you should return the rate. Its not compulsary and there's no obligation to but Its the sort of manners that are slipping from our society, and it doesnt have to be so. manners and rates cost nothing.
and breathe................... other than that I love this little site and am very glad it is in my life... there are some truly fantastic people on here and i have read, learnt and enjoyed so much that I cant see me throwing in the towel because of a few rude up their own a*se guides and intellectually challenged churners just yet. Long Live Dooyoo.
My rant over.

- 23/03/09 I've had no problems with guides at all and all of theones that I've encountered have been friendly and helpful. The problem with the guides are the ones who you just don't see around the site and I wonder why it is that they're still guides. |

- 18/03/09 haha what said about guides is funny and true. The guides do think they are some sort of messiah's. Maybe it is possible to write ten good reviews a day, so people should not be limited, but like you said increase the word limit to 300. |
