Advantages: Lets Me Get A Few Things Out.

Disadvantages: Perhaps Controversial.

First off all let me start off by stating that I love Dooyoo. It has pretty much changed my life for the better. The informative reviews on the site have greatly enhanced my ability to pick the correct products for myself and I have bought everything from books and DVD's to a mobile phone and a laptop based on reading other members reviews. It's allowed me to develop by leaps and bounds as a reviewer (just compare my earlier reviews to my more recent ones) thanks to very useful input from others as well as a thirst that's drove me to improve to contribute to Dooyoo. I've met some great people some of which I stay in frequent contact with, and have branched out to talk about other things than Dooyoo, and of course I have also earned a lot of money via Dooyoo miles, which have helped my build my DVD collection to nearly 500.

But recently I have had several problems with Dooyoo, and as a result I've been reviewing less than usual. I don't want to lose touch with the Dooyoo community, become unpopular, or start to dislike the site, so I would like to take this opportunity to get a few things off my chest, a little rant on a few small that have been bothering me. Hopefully by writing them down I will start to feel better and can get back to something I really enjoy - - - reviewing.

1. Dooyoo Suggestions.

I've never 'over-used' the function to suggest a new product into the Dooyoo site, which I understand is a very useful tool in improving the site by offering a wider range of products. I only tend to use it for products that I really want to review. However this year (for myself at least) any products I have suggested have took weeks upon weeks and in some cases months to be accepted by the system. Currently I have one item (software) that is still pending since the first half of August. By the time the Dooyoo team get around to them, I'm sad to say that I've lost interest. Not only that earlier this year I suggested a DVD that WASN'T yet available to review. After several weeks I received an email from Dooyoo saying that the suggestion was rejected because it was already available for review and I was told to ensure that I only suggest 'new' products. As I say when I originally suggested the DVD it was not on the system, when I rechecked it was and someone else had already published a review. I sent a message to the reviewer (who is a guide on Dooyoo) kindly asking if they had suggested the product or (in case I had missed it completed) had already found it on the system. I was told by them they suggested it only the previous week. I know the Dooyoo team work hard and have a lot to do, but I've stopped suggesting new products simply because of the hassle and the time it now takes.

2. My Circle Of Friends.

When I first became a member of Dooyoo it took me a while to build up my circle of friends, and as it stands (with many added) it contains reviewers that I trust, enjoyed reading their reviews, speak to, want to keep track off, have something in common with, or who have helped me in the past. However I have had a number of people usually new members add me to their circle of friends and then send me often abusive messages when I don't return the favour. Almost always they have never bothering to read or rate a single review of mine and their reviews are rated by the community as 'useful' 'somewhat useful' or worse. I don't know why they do so, it's not like you get extra miles based on the number of friends you have. I know that in some cases they may not know how the site works, but I'm personally getting annoyed of having to send them a message saying what I've wrote above.

3. Churners & 150 Words.

In the beginning I had no problem with the minimum 150 word count. My reviews are always well above that, and I felt that if people wanted to and Dooyoo were happy to allow only 150 words in a review then I was also happy. Now that I'm a more seasoned reviewer I feel that the minimum word count should really be raised. In my experience almost every 150 word (or just over) reviews are not that helpful and don't really tell me anything. Also members who submit review after review after review, usually quicker than I can read them all not that useful. I feel both factors lower the quality of the site and detract from the members who submit extremely useful, informative and enjoyable to read reviews time after time. Dooyoo have now limited new members to five reviews a day however I feel that it should apply to all members so that we are all treated fairly.

4. 2000 Word Review on Soup?

Forgetting for a second what I've said in the paragraph above, I personally don't see the point of writing extremely large (i.e. 2000 word) reviews if the product doesn't warrant it. If you take a DVD especially a boxed set spanning several seasons, or a large book, a complex item like a mobile phone with thousands of features then it may well take a great number of words to successfully convey the information. However I don't see the need to waffle on about a product if it's not needed. Why waste time including bulks of information that's not relevant. Not so long ago I read a review on tin of soup that was just over 2000 words. The first few paragraphs were good but then it went on to the history of soup, differences in soups around the world, different types of soup, what they felt about soups, and so forth. To be honest none of it was that good or relevant to the product. I rated it as 'useful' which I felt was overly kind as several others had rated lower. Only to receive half a dozen 'not useful' votes on my most recent reviews in an act of revenge. These were later removed by Dooyoo. But to some-up I feel that reviews should include genuinely useful information that covers all aspects, if that takes 300 words or 2000 words that's fine, but I've noticed many times reviewers added irreverent data or waffling on just to try and thicken things out. I really don't see the point.

There are a few other small issues that nag me such as speed rating, that are on my mind, but I'll save them for another day. While I don't have and never have had any large problems with Dooyoo the fore mentioned points were the biggest. I already feel better haven written this all down and I thank you all for reading and giving me this chance to vent....

Do you know where that soup review is, I could do with a laugh-and I'm sure learning the history of soup will be useful in a pub quiz one day!
