I too made the mistake of buying a Remington 597 in 22 Mag config. Out of the box it was junk. The hooky plastic magazine wouldn't feed. After a couple boxes of ammo...I put the gun away and figured I just made a dumb buy. A year later......the good ole boys come out with a metal magazine. The feeding problems go away......but then bolt assembly and trigger assembly break........The factory had my gun 5 times......they have it the 6th time now......won't give my money back without the orginal sales receipt.......which I can't find. They claim they can't replace till the end of 2003 or early 2004. Hmmmmmmmm.....I wonder if they are really just ...

i have owend many firearms last year i purchased a remington 597 on the basics of looks and it was a good price. What a big mistake I should have went with the ruger 10/22 in the first place there are many more add on parts to customize it and I think it's an all around better gun. I began to notice problems with the 597 about 15 minutes after I left the gunstore. I arrived at the range and loaded up the clips 5 in all I quickly cleaned the rifle. then loaded the clips into the rifle i could not get through a complete clip without a malfunction.
