Advantages: Enjoyable, Passes the day, Can eat you hard work
I am very lucky to have a very large back garden, as I love gardening especially vegetable growing. I am in my element all summer looking after my vegetable plot and fruit trees.
I have an apple tree, which I pick and store away to use as and when I need them. I laso have a large frame of raspberries and strawberries, which I use to make jam.
The thing I like best of all is to go into the garden and dig up fresh potatoes, carrots and onions, and eat them the same day.
I very much prefer them to the pre-packed ones in the supermarkets. Occasionaly I grow cabbages and lettuces, but always find them hard to grow, I much preper to grow root vegetables.
The worst thing about gardening I think is weeding and keeping the conifers trimmed, as both sides of my garden are leylandi conifers and the back garden is 60 feet long so you can imagine how hard it is to keep them looking tidy.
My front garden is of a medium size so I just have it simple, all I have is a lawn surrounded by borders, in which I put bedding plants in summer.
I usually grow my own bedding plants from seed, I have a small greenhouse, which I use to grow them in.
My husband likes a variety of herbs, so I grow several kinds of herbs just for him. I think it is really good to be able to grow things yourself, as they are a lot cheaper than buying them from the shop, and you also know what you are eating is fresh and if you want you can grow you fruit and vegetables organically.
I would advise anyone who has the time to try growing their own vegetables as it is an enjoyable hobby.
