Advantages: I Don't Know
Disadvantages: I Don't Know
Let me first announce I am not Gender Dysphoric so I am not going to even attempt to explain what it is. Instead I am hear to give those who have not come across someone with this condition (if that's the right term to use, please excuse me if it's not) a slight insight into the perceptions we; a) might have when hearing of one &; b) the realities we might experience when coming into contact with a said person. My experience was about a year ago when working in Scotland, there was a man working for the same company who had allegedly gone through the op'. Now let me first say this, I had heard of the guy beofre I had arrive but nothing could prepare me for the experience of being in the same working environment. Now, I suppose most of us have seen pictures or TV shows (no pun intnded) of men or women who had changed their gender, however the so called "beautiful" man is not always the end result of any such op. The gentleman in this case (& I am not trying to be insultive by my description) looked like Les Dawson in drag, I mean really. He was about 5ft 4" had a ginger wig that looked very much like the one Les used to wear when in character & had an extremely deep, gruff Scottish accent/voice. To add to all of this he weighed about 165-175 lbs & had nothing feminine about him at all except for the dress he wore. Now the fact that he had provided a doctors certificate to confrim he had had his manhood removed he believed it was his rite to use the Women's WC, however the females in that particular office thought othrwise & he was advised he had to use the gents. My question about Gender Dysphoria is this: If a doctor can subscribe medicine to make a man more feminine or a woman more masculin, why not exchange the treatment given to each gender, would it not help??? Okay, I know it is the individuals choice but it is big step to take & the results are not a
lways benificial to the recipient, in some cases it could possibly make their lives in the outside world even more of a misery. I'd sincerly like to hear some of your opinions on the matter as I (& I'm not a cruel person by nature) could not help but laugh when I saw this person because of who he'd reminded me of & how his whole character seem, might I say the whole experience was quite surreal. I don't know what Gender Dysphoria really consists of, I've seen Gays & Lesbians but this truly puts a whole other dimension on those tags & I myself would go so far as to say it is something quite different which I don't wish to be ignorant toward.

- 22/10/01 i think it is sad when people don't know who they are, or have to change in this way :( i accept their decision though if it makes them happy, although it is a little odd seeing someone for the first time like that. |

- 18/10/01 Enjoyed the op and learnt a lot from it. I think you'll agree that a lot of problems are caused by people's fears about what others will think about them. What will people think about me being Black? or TV? or being related to Gary Condit? or having funny ears? or having Michael Jackson as a father? It is now being suggested that Hitler killed lots of people in order to disguise his homosexuality. What about the former US president who was allegedly paedophile? What dark secrets are hidden by President Bush junior? I think that to be balanced we should accept the little bit of Blackness/Whiteness/ Jewishness/Femininity/Mas culinity/
Stupidity/C leverness/ Liberalism/Fascism/Crimin ality/ Cruelty/Kindness etc in all of us.
So don't worry if James Morris becomes Jan Morris or ..... And if you are Jewish, go and marry a Palestinian. And wouldn't Charlton Heston look interesting in a dress?
