Advantages: Can cheer you up regardless of the lack of cash in your purse
Disadvantages: Whats not to love?
Sorry if this sounds overly cheesy in an American Thanksgiving type way but there's so much negativity and doom and gloom around at the moment (understandable in a recession, I know) that I have decided to remind people (and myself!) what's great about the world. Here's my own personal little list.
1) My husband. He's the most amazing pain in the bum I've ever met! I met him when I was 15 and we've been together for 8 years. He's my best friend, he makes me laugh, he's romantic and he helped co-create the world's cutest baby. Which brings me nicely onto point number two...
2) My son. As I'm writing this my little seven week old is snoring away. Is there any cuter sound than a baby snoring?! I've never been overly ambitious, all my life I've known that all I've really wanted to do is be a mum. Jobs are just here to pay the bills, motherhood is the only job I'm passionate about. From his fluffy little head to the tips of his toes, my little man makes me happy to be alive.
3) My cat. Charlie is not your average cat. She is verging on psychotic. Her mother wasn't interested in her so when we got her we had to handfeed her with a pipet (adorable doesn't even begin to describe it!) She now thinks that me and hubby are her mum, and is completely loving and trusting towards us. However should anyone else dare to go near her, the teeth and claws are out! She has accepted our baby (she seems to find him quite dull...) but anyone else is clearly not to be trusted! I know this should bother me but a small par of me loves the fact she is so loyal!
4) My two best friends. I have quite a few acquaintances but only two real friends. I've not always had the best relationship with my family but my friends have been there through it all. Tears, tantrums, deadly hangovers, babies...I'd be lost without my friends.
5) St Helens Rugby League Club. And rugby league in general really. I've had a season ticket at my beloved Saints since I was 10, and because of the baby this is the first year I've not been able to make it to all the games. There is no feeling quite like roaring your team on, especially if they go on to win. I feel like the players are part of my extended family, I'm strangely protective over them! I can criticise them, but no one else can!
6) Bacon butties. Add a tuck load of tomato sauce and you've got the worlds best comfort food/hangover cure.
7) Sophie Kinsella. Author of the shopaholic series, but also my favourite book of all time "Can you keep a secret". I have read and re-read this book, it's pure feel good escapism. It's the only book I have actually laughed out loud while reading. I love it!
8) Breakfast at Tiffanys. The film equivalent of a duvet and cosy slippers. That scene with the cat in the rain... *sigh* Perfection
And that sums it up. Times may be hard but I've always got my lovely things to keep me feeling cheery!
Summary: Theres more to life than money
