Advantages: self confidence, self respect, self DEFENCE!
Disadvantages: need to be reasonably open minded
When I was just a boy, I was fat, lazy and not interested in martial arts unless it was the open kickboxing championships on Sky Sports One. But since joining Tang Soo Do I have become a talented Red Belt and am now one of the best students in the class.
If anything it has taught me to respect life and enjoy training to the full. My fitness has increased by factors of ten and i have become a more positive person, PLUS I have learnt to kick some butt if I am ever in seriouse danger.
The self control has to be earnt by giving respect to Black Belts and listening to and obeying instructions from them.
I can not begin to describe the changes that it has brought to my life but it has certainly changed for the better.
There is sooo much to be learnt from sooo many people that the information is kind of daunting at first but then something snaps (usually not bones) and the information all becomes clear as crystal.
The only thing I can suggest is that you go now and join a martial arts club RIGHT NOW and see how good your life will become!
