Ok let?s look at the facts I am English born in England?s second City. I have lived my entire life here. I have served in an English Regiment in the British Army. My parents and there parents were British. I believe myself to be first English then British. I always support my national sports team win, loose or draw. I am proud to be English. I am sometimes offended by the behaviour of other brits abroad. I have never been to prison, have no intention to go to prison and have no living relative that has too my knowledge been to prison. I am also a regular voter in national and local elections and try to encourage others to vote. I have a Driving Licence a National Insurances Number and a Passport and I regularly travel abroad for holidays. What I do not have and do not want is a National Identity Card. No I have nothing to fear about having one I just do not think it correct and proper. I can identify myself in many ways, Bank Cards, Passport, Driving Licence are just a few. My work Id card has my picture on and it is in my possession all the time I am at work or travelling too or from work. I also carry my Driving Licence when I am at work although you are advised not to carry it with you! I don?t mind carrying these cards or using them for identification. I do object to a National Identification Card. So what it my problem with it you may ask, other countries have them? Well Britain is not other countries for a start. Even I do not accept that argument so why? Well there is no logical reason to have them. It is just another item that dose the job of countless other bits and bobs that we carry with us as a mater of cause. My main objection is the under hand hidden agenda for there introduction. The Government will cite anti-terrorism as the main reason for there issue. How will it affect terrorism? Are not the terrorists in Northern Ireland British citizens? Are the welsh Nationalist arsonists not British citizens? Would they not b
e allowed ID cards? Would those in prison have them revoked? What about people who enter the country legally would they have to have one? Would it have to be different in some way? The government will cite that only those with something to hide will not want them. What utter twaddle. I may not want to hide but I do not want all and sundry to have access to my personal details. I do not want any Tom Dick or Harry to be able to access my personal intimate information. The proposed ID cards will incorporate ?Biomechanics? This may be A picture of your Iris. Your Iris is formed within a few hours of birth and is unique and remains for hours if not days after your death. Your iris is also a great indication of your health. It can tell the trained reader all manor of things about you. Fantastic for insurance companies they won?t even have to have you there as there will be a central computer containing all the info. There is also a probability to incorporate DNA information in to the card. So if your prospective employer wants to know if you have AIDS he won?t have to embarrass you by asking. Fingerprints, not so messy these days as it can be done by scanning them in to a computer then kept on a vast database with the rest of your other private, personal information. It would be a great tool for the Police. Find there forensic evidence, feed it in to a central computer and out comes a match with your location according to the last time you obtained money from a cash machine or paid with your credit card or had an AIDS test. They will be able to discover a full profile of you. They will be able to track you then at a point determined by them close in and make an arrest. So why am I so against it apart from it being an infringement to my civil rights? If it comes in it will be compulsory to carry one, otherwise what is the point. Therefore if I or you do not have it in our possession when and if it is required for any reason what
soever even being a witness or a victim we will become a criminal! It is estimated that it will in all probability criminalise, 80% of law abiding citizens and will not make the slightest difference to the criminal fraternity. There is also a cost involved it is estimate that it will cost each citizen £80 to £120 to obtain a card. Personally I disagree with British citizens having to pay for there Passports let alone an Identification card that I do not want. It will not stop terrorism. It will not stop criminals going about there business. Though more may be caught and put in our already overcrowded prisons. It will however infringe on our human rights big time. Once again The British Government attempts to curb the uncivilised actions of a few by organising against the many. Then they will throw there hands up and exclaim that they don?t know what all the fuss is about. Well the fuss is about punishing the law abiding citizens for the crimes of the criminals. Its easier to find those who have nothing to hide than it is to find those who have.
